Up to € 3,000,000 Available for Technical Documentation for Geothermal Energy

Deadline: 29-Nov-21

Applications are now open for the Technical Documentation for Geothermal Energy Programme.

The Republic of Croatia has very favourable conditions for the usage of renewable energy sources due to its geographic position, geological setting and climate. Within the Republic of Croatia, the geothermal potential was indicated by more than 25 natural thermal springs and proved by more than 4,000 deep wells drilled during oil and gas explorations undertaken in the second part of the 20th century.

Regarding the geological properties and geothermal potential, Croatia can be generally divided into two areas: the Pannonian basin and the Dinarides. Most geothermal resources in Croatia have a temperature ranging between 50-120°C, which allows the utilization of geothermal energy for heating purposes. The transport of thermal energy over longer distances is expensive and can at present not be economically justified, which means that utilization of geothermal energy is only feasible in the relative vicinity of the geothermal energy sources.

Goals

The main goal of the Programme is to increase the usage of technologies with lower carbon emissions and enlarged security of energy supply in the Republic of Croatia, which is aligned to the key objectives of the EEA and Norway Grants. Therefore, the Programme focuses on the following areas of support:

Renewable energy
Energy efficiency
Energy security
Mitigating the effects of climate change
Adaptation to climate change
Funding Information

The overall budget of the Programme is 20.000.000,00 EUR, out of which an EEA Financial Mechanism contribution is 17.000.000,00 EUR (85% of the Programmes amount), and 3.000.000,00 EUR represents national funding (15% of the Programmes amount).

Outputs

Renewable energy capacity installed”
“Strengthened capacity to manage and promote renewable energy”
Outcomes

The Programme`s objective, “Less carbon intensive energy and increased security of supply”, will be achieved through two outcomes:

“Improved energy efficiency”
“Increased renewable energy production”
Project Duration

The planned (eligible) duration of project implementation is from 12 to 24 months.

Location of the Project

Territorial range and place of implementation of the activities covered by technical documentation developed within the project are restricted to the continental area of Croatia (the Pannonian Basin and its marginal area). Additionally, bilateral cooperation activities can be implemented on the territory of Donor States.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Project Promoters /Applicants: Any entity, public or private, commercial, or non-commercial and non-governmental organization, established as a legal person in Croatia.
Eligible Project Partners: Any public or private entity, commercial or non-commercial, and a nongovernmental organization established as a legal person in donor states (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) or Croatia.
