 Background Information – Job-specific
Gender based violence (GBV) is a phenomena which is prevalent in all countries in the world. Gender based violence takes different forms like physical, psychological and sexual violence. Violence against children is also considered a form of gender based violence. In cases of domestic violence, children are often witnesses or survivors of violence themselves. Though women and girls are overwhelmingly the targets of GBV, men and boys can also be subject to GBV, especially if they are perceived to be acting outside the prescribed social norms for males. Violence has immediate and long term consequences to survivors with respect to health, economic and social dimensions. The health consequence on health bears the central effect with physical, cognitive and psychological and developmental, which its repercussion reflect in high costs, lower productivity bearing great burden for different sectors of the society. The health effect of GBV runs across different health programs ranging from Communicable and non-communicable disease to maternal and child health as well as mental health programs.  . With renewed commitment, FMOH planned to address the gap in GBV response within the health sector as per the internationally adopted national standards and operating frameworks.
