Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Nutrition Section for Central South Region, the Nutrition Officer will undertake the following tasks:
Support the implementation of the emergency nutrition programme in Central South Somalia
Support the formulation of the nutrition program’s partnerships including program cooperation agreements, program documents and corresponding budgets
Strengthen the sub-nutritional cluster coordination at regional level.
Collect information on humanitarian situation, specific nutrition situation and interventions.
Networking and partnership building across nutrition partners including ministries of health, local and international NGOs and sister agencies, particularly the World Food Program
Support monitoring and reporting of the nutrition component of the office program including IMAM, IYCF and micronutrient monitoring
Collaborate with sister agencies to contribute to the capacity building of nutrition implementing partners
Contribute to the preparation and implementation of program meetings
Participate in the planning and organization of field monitoring missions of the nutrition program
Contribute to the review and Follow up of Third-Party Monitoring (TPM) reports
Deliverables:
Attend field level coordination meetings and represent UNICEF
Support/strengthen Regional Nutrition cluster coordination
Provide weekly update/report of UNICEF supported nutrition activities in the field
Collect additional data on the humanitarian situation (outbreaks, displacement etc.) and share as part of weekly update
Conduct weekly monitoring of UNICEF supported activities in the field
Support UNICEF implementing partners in communicating activities: providing information on nutrition services (including how and where to access them) and entitlements in all emergency areas. Number of people reached with information shared weekly
Collect the data on the number of caretakers trained on Mother Lead MUAC Screening (MLMS) per Facility and referrals being made by the mother to that facilities and report monthly
Support implementing partners in effectively reporting to nutrition cluster through ONA/DHIS 2.
At least three quarterly TPM reports are reviewed for quality assessment and action point followed up.
Monthly consultancy activities report written and submitted to manager for review and approval
Supervisor/Overall Responsibility
The candidate will report directly to the Head of the Nutrition Section for Central South Region and the country office nutrition team.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
A University Degree or higher in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, nutritional epidemiology or other health related science field is required.
More than 3 years relevant public health and nutrition experience, with at least 2 years experience in the field of Nutrition at national level, and familiarity with latest developments in nutrition.
Fluency in English and Somali is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
