Background
To increase funding and to maximize supporter engagement UNICEF Niger communicates with a wide range of stakeholders – including Government, donors, individual supporters, key influencers, businesses and general public, including children. In this framework, UNICEF Niger seeks a professional Graphic Designer to provide creative and compelling visual communication materials for different programme sections.
Purpose
The overall objective is to set up a roster of pre-approved Graphic Designer (Consultant) with agreed, when-actually-engaged fees and terms of engagement. This will also help UNICEF to contract their services to document UNICEF’s activities on an “as needed” basis, to share with stakeholders at the national, regional and global level, and to use as an advocacy tool.
Major Assignments/Tasks
Under the supervision of the Chief of Communication and the Communication Specialist, the consultant will undertake the following tasks in accordance with UNICEF’s Global Brand Guidelines and Graphics Manual:
Design reports, brochures, toolkits, newsletters, fact sheets, briefing notes, and other such publications to support the programme sections to communicate their content in the most effective and compelling way, applying the UNICEF brand guidelines throughout for consistency and coherence.
Design infographics, data visualization and factographs for print and/or digital platforms, including the country office website and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
Design and layout PowerPoint presentations, as requested.
Source quality and most suitable photo and videos from the UNICEF database in line with the global guidelines.
Design logo and vector illustrations, as requested.
Produce geographic maps of the country and regions using latest technology and most up to date maps, as requested.
Design posters and graphic materials to support events, campaigns and meetings, as requested.
Liaise and coordinate the printing production of certain publications and materials.
Design and produce motion graphics, as requested.
Deliverables
Quality designed products for various UNICEF programme sections, as requested, completed in line with UNICEF brand requirements and delivered within specified deadlines.
Payment
Payment is linked to receipt and satisfactory acceptance of deliverables.
Duration
The duration will be determined on a need basis and a contract for the consultant will be raised for the period in which he/she is needed.
Work Relationships
The consultant shall have regular interactions with the Communication Chief and other communication staff at the various stages of this consultancy to assess the situation/assignment; agree on the process and clarify the deliverables; and track the progress.
The consultant is expected to work home-based and independently: s/he will provide the equipment needed to ensure her good performance (laptop, phone, email, other supply…).
Qualifications and Experience
University degree in graphic design or comparable academic qualifications
At least five years of professional graphic design experience
Good portfolio of design work
Ability to follow creative briefs and produce accurate artwork which is in line with the UNICEF brand guidelines
Experience of working for an international organization or an NGO is desirable
Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products, such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
Good working knowledge of PowerPoint and other Office platforms
Ability to translate data into compelling infographics
Good working knowledge of Geographic mapping software such as GIS
Good command of written and spoken English and French
Ability to deliver products on time and within budget
Experience of working with printing and production companies
