For every child, CommunicationUnder the guidance of the Representative, this position is responsible for developing, managing, implementing and monitoring an advocacy and communication strategy as well as being the key position to lead strategic engagement with the private sector. The position works with and maintains an on-going relation with media, donors, private sector, oversees the country office’s social media engagement and is responsible for high visibility events, including those linked donor and partner visits and campaigns. The position works in support of the strategic objective of promoting awareness, understanding, support and respect for children’s and women’s rights, the equity focus and support for UNICEF’s mission, priorities and programmes in the country office and at a global level and those of the UN Country Team.
How can you make a difference?Develop, maintain and update the country advocacy and communication strategy and associated work plan in support of the key priorities of the country programme and critical issues for children in Burundi
Manage a country communication team that effectively executes a proactive and comprehensive media relations work plan encompassing the elements noted below.Oversee implementation of the country office’s Private Sector Engagement Strategy.Establish, document, review and refine process of working with celebrities, including special events, media opportunities, field trips etc.Manages the work of the country communication team to include support for UNICEF’s global communications objectives and strategies through development of complementary country specific and local community materials and activitiesEnsure regular communication and co-ordination with relevant communication focal points in regional offices and headquarters divisions.Manage the communication team and oversee development of work-plan, its effective implementation and results monitoringIdentify opportunities to strengthen the capacity of partners through appropriate advocacy and communication training, and through knowledge sharing.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in  in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or other related fields of discipline.*A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
A minimum of 8 years] of relevant professional experienceDeveloping country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.Fluency in English and French is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
