OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
BackgroundThe Third Cycle of Periodic Reporting exercise on the application of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention for the Arab States region was initiated in September 2018. The main purpose of this exercise is to give key stakeholders the opportunity to reflect on the implementation of the World Heritage Convention, to take stock of matters relating to the conservation, protection and management of World Heritage sites at the regional, national and the site level, and to develop an Action Plan for the coming 6 years.

Under the authority of the Director of the World Heritage Centre of the Culture Sector (CLT/WHC) and the direct supervision of the Head of the Arab States unit of the World Heritage Centre, the incumbent will contribute to the Periodic Reporting Exercise in the Arab States region.
In this context, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks: 
Support the team of the Arab States unit in the context of the finalization of the Periodic Reporting Exercise activities in the Arab States region by:
Assisting in the review process of Section I and Section II of the Periodic reporting questionnaires;Assisting in compiling, analyzing and summarizing recommendations for priority areas for a Regional Action Plan;Supporting the organization of consultation online meetings;Supporting the preparation of a Regional Action Plan for the Arab States region, to be presented at the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee;Supporting the elaboration of a publication related to the Regional Action Plan for the Arab States region.Contributing to any other relevant task.COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)Accountability (C)Communication (C)Innovation (C)Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C)Planning and organizing (C)Results focus (C)Teamwork (C)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATIONAdvanced degree in a field related to heritage conservation or management.
 WORK EXPERIENCEAt least 2 years of relevant work experience.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIESExcellent interpersonal and communication skills.
LANGUAGESExcellent knowledge of English or French. 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSStrong understanding of World Heritage issues in the Arab States region.Knowledge of other official languages of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) will be an asset. 
APPLICATION PROCESSThe consultant contract will have a duration of 6 month with a probationary period of 1 month. The appointment is non-career and does not carry any expectancy of renewal or conversion to another contract. Medical health care is not provided. Possible to work remotely for candidates who are not based in Paris.
