UNDP: Supporting other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures in India

The North-East OECMs Initiative will be implemented by United Nations Development Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and National Biodiversity Authority, and is being funded by the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Federal Republic of Germany.
To Support the Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) being implemented by local communities in North-East India for conservation, sustainable management of natural resources, and post-pandemic green recovery.
Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures are defined by the Convention on Biological Diversity as, “ A geographically defined area other than a government notifies conserved area such as National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries, Reserved Forest and Wetlands, which is governed and managed in ways that achieve positive and sustained long-term outcomes for the in-situ conservation of biodiversity, with associated ecosystem functions and services and where applicable, cultural, spiritual, socio-economic, and other locally relevant values.”

Funding Information
Grants would be made to each project as per the decision of Project Working Committee under the range from USD 10,000 – USD 50,000.
The projects must be operationally and financially closed within 24 months of signing of the grant agreement.
