Background
AGCCI is a programme that is being implemented by UN Women in collaboration with the African Union Commission and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and is designed to expose and equip young girls with digital literacy, CODING and personal development skills. The four-year programme with a total programme budget of US$7.5Million will train young girls to become programmers, creators and designers, placing them on track to take up educations and careers in ICT and CODING through the following overall components:

1. CODING Camps in countries across Africa targeting young girls aged between 17 – 20 years from African countries. The first CODING Camp took place in Addis Ababa in August 2018 with up to 90 young girls aged 17-20 years from all AU Member States followed by the second regional coding camp that hosted 43 girls from the SADC region.

2. Mainstream ICT, CODING and Gender in to the national curricula– AGCCI will work closely with Ministries of Education and Ministries of ICT in countries across Africa to mainstream ICT, gender and CODING into the national curricula. This part of the Initiative will allow millions of both urban and rural girls to learn IT skills from the early stages of their primary, middle and high school education. This approach will allow interest in ICT to be engrained in the young girls and place them on the path to reap benefits of the global digital boom. Ethiopia and 9 other countries will be the first countries, where the approach for mainstreaming ICT, gender and CODING will be refined and implemented. The experiences from those countries will form part of the interventions in other African countries.

Understanding the unique advantage of training of the relevant ministries of African countries to mainstream ICT, Gender and Coding in to their national curricula including the role it plays in exposing young girls to ICT the training will be used as a key intervention. In line with this, UN Women Ethiopia, in collaboration with International Communication Union (ITU) and African Union Commission (AUC), have approved and adopted a guide on mainstreaming ICT, Coding and Gender into the national curricula of relevant ministries of African countries and is currently preparing to organize a three-day training followed by a two-day TOT based on the guide.

The participants will know more about the strategy and how to apply it and will receive skills that will allow them to plan and implement duplication of the training to the selected staff in their respective ministries, of the corresponding countries. The trainees will then be guided to work on plans of actions including activities they will need to undertake once back in their countries. Therefore, UN Women is hiring national consultant preferably Bi lingual (French and English or Arabic and English); to develop, facilitate and coordinate a training based on the available mainstreaming ICT, Gender and coding guide
