Early Grant Information for NGOs

The implementer will be a legally recognized non-profit or non-governmental organization that meets U.S. and Pakistani technical and legal requirements to develop and implement public diplomacy programs as specified.

The project will provide training to Pakistani media outlets on new business models to generate and diversify private sector revenue and strategies for becoming more economically viable and independent. Training would target small, medium, and large media outlets, as well as independent/entrepreneurial journalists, and consist of a series of workshops combined with opportunities for individual mentorship. The workshops would be national in scope.

Greater editorial independence and economic viability for Pakistani media.
Objectives

Journalists and media owners will learn how to diversify revenue and identify alternative business models.
These changes will take place by training 50 media outlet owners and journalists on alternate business models and revenue diversification during FY 2021.
Training topics will include how to monetize content by selling rights-to-use or recurring subscriptions, selling advertisements to private business, or selling data on consumers.

Media outlet owners and managing editors representing a mix of small, medium, and large outlets and independent/entrepreneurial journalists.
Eligibility Criteria

Organizations may sub-contract with other entities, but only one, non-profit, nongovernmental entity can be the prime recipient of the award. When sub-contracting with other entities, the responsibilities of each entity must be clearly defined in the proposal.
The following organizations are eligible to apply:
Not-for-profit organizations;
Civil society/non-governmental organizations;
Think tanks;
Public and private educational institutions.
