U.S. Embassy in Uruguay announces 2020 Cultural and Educational Grants Program

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) at U.S. Embassy Montevideo is now accepting Statements of Interest (SOI) proposals to participate in the embassy’s Small Grants Competition.

U.S. Embassy Montevideo provides funding for programs that support the embassy’s strategic priorities in Uruguay, including enhancing global security; building economic prosperity for the United States and Uruguay; and defending the values of democracy and justice.

Proposed programs should strengthen bilateral ties between the United States and Uruguay and include a clear U.S. connection that will promote increased understanding of the United States among the Uruguayan public.

Proposals should address one or more of the following priority program areas:

Sharing U.S. culture, values, and policies with Uruguayan audiences.
Promoting Cybersecurity and 5G awareness
Promoting democracy and rule of law (especially related to democracy promotion in Venezuela)
Strengthening media literacy and awareness of disinformation
Creating innovative English language programs.
Promoting science and technology education.
Promoting entrepreneurship.

Eligible organizations may request up to $25,000 (US dollars). Proposed projects should begin by August and end within 6 months.

The Public Affairs Section encourages applications from:

U.S. and Uruguayan registered not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks, civil society organizations, and nongovernmental organizations with programming experience;
Non-profit or public educational institutions;
Uruguayan governmental entities.
NOTE: For-profit or commercial entities are not eligible to apply.

Evaluation Criteria

Each application will be evaluated and rated on the basis of the evaluation criteria outlined below. The criteria listed are closely related and are considered as a whole in judging the overall quality of an application.

Quality and feasibility of the program
The capacity of the organization to successfully implement the program
Goals and objectives in relation to Embassy priority program areas
Monitoring and evaluation plan
Budget, including proposed cost-sharing
Long-term sustainability of program, including whether it is a repeatable or scalable initiative after receiving embassy support
