The U.S. Embassy in Cotonou – Benin, through this Notice of FundingOpportunity (NOFO), has announced an open competition for assistance awards.

 

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Cotonou is inviting all eligible applicants to submit proposals for its “PAS Cotonou Small Grants Program for All Audiences”. PAS intends to issue an award for a period of twelve (12) months.

Goals

Project proposals submitted through this NOFO should address one of the following goals:

  • Build capacity of journalists on methods and resources for identifying fake news in print, social media, and online, including altered or manipulated images and videos.
  • Increase media literacy of Benin’s population about how to distinguish between facts and misinformation, rumors, and/or opinions shared on social media, traditional press, or online.
  • Raise awareness about the dangers of creating and sharing fake news and encourage the suppression of rumors, fake news, while advocating for ethical behavior online.
  • Create a fact-checking website, office, consortium or group with the competencies and resources to confirm stories circulated on social media or by the Beninese press.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligibility is open to all individuals; all non-profit, non-governmental organizations whose work directly impacts Beninese populations. Organizations may sub-contract with other entities, but only one, non-profit, non-governmental entity can be the prime recipient of the award. For profit entities are not eligible to be the prime recipient of an award under this NOFO. When sub-contracting with other entities, the responsibilities of each entity must be clearly defined in the proposal.
  • Previous federal award recipients who are not/were not in compliance with the terms of the award, including the financial and program reporting requirements, are not eligible for an award under the NOFO. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure she or he is in compliance with all applicable terms, conditions, and Office of Management and Budget guidance and requirements.
