The United States Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs (AF) has announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for organizationsinterested in submitting proposals to support the capacity building of civil society organizations (CSOs) to counter violent extremism (CVE) in Mozambique.
The goal of this program is to build the capacity of Mozambican CSOs to counter violent extremism, and to build a network that will serve to educate and advocate for effective CVE strategies, interventions, and initiatives.
Objectives
The ‘Building Capacity to Counter Violent Extremism in Mozambique’ project has 3 key objectives:
- Objective 1: Enhance CSOs’ ability to identify the drivers and interventions to mitigate violent extremism in their communities.
- Objective 2: Provide CSOs with the tools and support to initiate effective, community-based CVE interventions, including project and financial management skills.
- Objective 3: Develop a network of CSOs that will serve to educate on and advocate for effective CVE strategies and programs to the government and the public.
Successful applicant will be issued a cooperative agreement with substantial involvement from AF in the Recipient’s implementation of this program and will be expected to coordinate closely with the DC-based AF program manager, as well as key staff in Embassies overseas. As such, AF will work closely with the recipient to provide direction and facilitate discussion with relevant Embassies on targets of potential assistance.

- U.S.-based non-profit/non-governmental organizations having a 501(c) (3) status with the IRS
- Commercial Entities
- For-Profit Organizations
- Overseas nongovernmental non-profit organizations
- Foreign Public Entities
- Public International Organizations.
- Applicants must demonstrate expertise with training in sensitive environments, preferably in regions prone to terrorist activity. Applicants should also demonstrate in-depth understanding of Mozambique’s cultural context and governance structures. Previous experience working in Mozambique is preferred.
