VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:
TRANSLATOR/INTERPRETER
SOUTH AFRICAN EMBASSY DAKAR

The South African Embassy in Dakar is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the full-time permanent position of Translator/Interpreter.

Basic function of position
– Incumbent of this position will provide translation services for the South African Embassy in Dakar.
– He/she will provide interpretation for senior mission management and visitors at high-level events and meetings with officials of the Government of Senegal and other public and private entities.
– The incumbent will provide a daily media report in English, and compile information, research and related services in the field of political and economic developments in Senegal (the Gambia and Cabo Verde).
– He/she will be expected to advise the Mission staff on communication issues including Senegalese culture, media, the political environment. etc.
– Manage and update a database of media contacts
– Arrange press conferences, draft press statements, arrange media interviews,
– Draft responses to basic media enquiries under supervision of the political section

Qualifications required
A relevant post-school qualification with English and French as main subjects PLUS 5 years’ experience as translator from French to English and vice versa. Preference will be given to candidates who are registered as translators with a recognized body. The candidate must be computer literate.
A diploma in translation and interpreting or a Master’s Degree in English with experience of working in diplomatic missions or international organizations as well as knowledge of South African and African current affairs will be an advantage,
