Early Grant Information for NGOs

For several decades, Allegheny County has had one of the nation’s highest concentrations of older adults and has developed a strong and diverse network of services to meet their needs. However, this population shift points to the likely increased need for home and community-based supports, acute services and cost-effective care management to keep seniors healthy and safe in the community.

Ensure residents of elder care facilities are not denied services because of inability to pay.
Provide supportive services for seniors in institutional, community-based or home-based settings.
Offer education and training for elder care workers to enhance their abilities to provide quality care.
Develop and/or distribute assistive technology to enable improved quality of life. This might include medical alerts, medication management tools, vision enhancements, etc.
Prevent elder abuse and neglect.
Help seniors meet basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter.
Provide community-based medical care/health care for seniors.
Provide direct care and assistance to people who have Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Funding Information

Generally, the Pittsburgh Foundation provides one-year grants, with an average grant size between $50,000 and $75,000. However, multi-year grants up to $100,000 will be considered.
