The Environmental Foundation of Jamaica: Seeking Applications for Special Climate Change Adaptation Fund

The Environmental Foundation of Jamaica (EFJ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation (MEGJC), has issued a Call for Proposals under the Special Climate Change Adaptation Fund (SCCAF). This is taking place through funding of US$1.4 million provided by the Inter-American Development Bank through the project “Adaptation Programme and Financing Mechanism for PPCR Jamaica” for climate smart initiatives.

Theme Areas

Entities in all parishes may submit proposals in these thematic areas:

  • Soil Conservation/Flood Prevention;
  • Agriculture, including Agroforestry, Urban Farming, Waste Management and Climate Resilient Crops;
  • Community Water Management Systems; Climate Smart Buildings/Facilities; and
  • Innovative Climate Change Adaptation Techniques, Mechanisms and Services.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Grants of up to J$5 million each from the SCCAF may be accessed by community based organizations (CBOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), other civil society groups (CSGs), legally registered in Jamaica as a non-profit entity, a cooperative or a society; and selected public sector agencies, for clearly defined high priority activities, particularly related to building resilience to climate change and particularly to develop, test and demonstrate approaches, best practices and solutions, contributing to livelihoods protection and poverty reduction.
  • Public sector entities must be working at the community level implementing projects that seek to enhance their own capacities and/or the capacities of related communities. Special consideration will be given to women’s groups and vulnerable groups.
