The Access To Justice Foundation: 2018 National Grants Program

Deadline: 5 June 2018

The Access To Justice Foundation (ATJF) is inviting applications for its 2018 National Grants Program to improve access to justice for the most vulnerable in society.

Focus Areas

Applications should also be particularly focused on:

  • Widening the availability of access to justice for the most vulnerable people and in particular families and individuals living in poverty.
  • Effective use of resources.
  • Multiple delivery partners where appropriate.
  • If appropriate, sustainability and plans to adapt to the new funding environment, including efforts to generate sustainable new funding sources as well as sharing and rationalisation.

Funding Information

Applications will generally be eligible to be awarded funds in the region of £20,000 to £30,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The trustees will only consider requests for funding from organisations which provide, organise or facilitate the provision of legal advice or assistance which is provided free of charge to people who are in charitable need. The trustees may also provide funding to organisations which further access to justice more broadly.
  • The Foundation will not fund individual litigation (including disbursements).
  • Pro bono work is not a substitute for legal aid. The Foundation will not provide funding for services for which public funding is available.
  • Requests for funding will be considered from national or regional organisations and projects which cover one or more of the following key criteria:
    • Assisting or reducing the increased number of litigants in person either nationally or in a particular region (as opposed to a local area).
    • Helping the pro bono and advice sectors operate more efficiently or strategically on a national or regional basis. For example, through consolidation, collaboration or use of technology.
    • Facilitating access to pro bono resources for those most in need, either nationally or regionally.
