Position: Mine Manager, Sabodala Senegal.

Summary of Role

This is an expat FIFO role: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off roster with travel in company time to our Sabodala mine site in Senegal.

Expected start date for this opportunity is November / December 2018.

As the Mine Manager reporting to the Site Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing all mining related activities to achieve operational goals and targets, provide leadership and oversight to Mine Operations, Mine Maintenance, Drilling and Blasting, Mining Engineering/Planning, Geology, Mine Projects and other mine support activities. You will also be responsible to ensure the safety and environmental stewardship of all the teams and related personnel on site.

This position acts as an alternate to the Site Operations Manager when he is offsite or on rotational leave.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as a leader in all areas by assisting, planning, developing, implementing, reviewing and monitoring activities to optimize the operation of the mine, while evaluating economic implications;

Act as a change leader, always looking for ways to improve how we operate in an effective and efficient manner;

Manage mine operations for continuous improvement for equipment efficiency and minimizing operating costs

Develop and elaborate strategies in order to meet the gold production targets and ensure safe, efficient extraction of material in accordance with statutory obligations & best practises;

Ensure that all activities are done according to LOM, budget and forecasts and oversee the work for monthly and annual corporate reporting of various mining statistics;

Carry out duties of managing all activities in the most cost effective manner possible to deliver required gold production;

Set up and implement schedules for mine production and equipment to optimize productivity and coordinate efforts with contractors and the mine engineering team;

Plan work according to business requirements and focus on longer term objectives while achieving shorter goals;

Oversee all people related activities behaving in a manner consistent with company values and expected behaviours including managing relationships and contractual requirements with contractors and service providers;

Foster an amicable and professional working relationship with all employees and contractors;

Demonstrate expertise in coaching, mentoring employees with diverse backgrounds and develop overall plan for team to ensure skill development and succession plans;

Build productive relationships within the team and across the company through collaboration & teamwork

Qualifications

Degree in mining engineering required and Masters’ Degree in Business is an asset
Minimum 15 years’ experience in a hard rock open pit Gold mining environment with 10 years’ experience as a Mine Manager or equivalent position

Ability to develop and manage budgets

Excellent leadership and management skills with proven ability to motivate and empower team.

Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture
Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and problem solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work with a sense of urgency

Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and working knowledge of ERP systems (ie Pronto)

A proactive approach to modern safety management systems and practices
Strong communication skills in English, (French is an asset)
