Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss organisation for children’s aid. Since 1960, Tdh has helped build a better future for deprived children and their communities, making an impact with innovative and sustainable solutions. Active in more than 45 countries, Tdh works with local and international partners to develop and implement field projects which improve the daily lives of over 3 million children and their relatives, in the domains of health, protection and emergency relief. This engagement is financed by individual and institutional support, with administrative costs kept to a minimum.

 

 

Context :

Tdh has been present in Bangladesh since 1974 and in Cox’s Bazar since October 2017 following the arrival of 700 000 Rohingya refugees coming from Myanmar. Tdh is setting up a multisectoral and integrated humanitarian response in the camps, through Child protection, Wash, nutrition and health activities. In 2018, a new operational base has been open in Teknaf, south of Cox’s Bazar and home to 130 000 refugees in order to run a Primary Health Care Facility (Open 24/7 with 300 to 400 consultations a day),sanitation and waste treatment activities and case management for vulnerable children.

A PHC manager is currently in charge of running the facility and coordinating the different teams. An additional resource, medical supervisor, is needed to support the work of the PHC manager notably when it comes to following up the doctors team (6 persons), training staff, creating/revising SOPs and protocols and more globally ensure the highest possible quality of care.

A professional sense of security, confidentiality, and proper representation is paramount.

The incumbent will conduct his or her duties in respect of the Charter of Terre des hommes and Tdh Child Protection Policy.

Terre des hommes expects that its contractors’ professional conduct reflect proper behaviour in accordance with local culture and traditions. The incumbent assures the moral protection of the name of Terre des hommes and defends in all circumstances the interests of the movement.

Tdh intervenes without any affiliation for politics, religion or financial profit. The incumbent will direct his or her activities and engagements without preoccupation of political, racial or religious affiliation.

 

 

Responsibilities :

  • Assure through excellent medical knowledge and skills appropriate diagnosis, prescriptions, treatment and respectful care of patients
  • Manage, train and supervise the medical team
  • Assistance PHC manager to organize and complete needed protocols, policies, SOPs for PHC
  • In PHC every day- Continuous on-the-job teaching of up to date practices, Oversight, mentoring and education of PHC staff
  • Relay to PHC manager the needs (medications, education, protocols, policies) and the problematic areas that need attention
  • Ensure integrated medical and protection care through emergency, outpatient and inpatient department services
  • Propose modifications to current medical care management, implementing them once approved by The Health Advisor
  • Ensure quality of care by giving on-going training to the multidisciplinary medical/paramedical team, reviewing complicated cases and providing technical advice
  • Ensure that professional autonomy and confidentiality are respected, and demonstrate a good attitude and bedside manner towards patients and their caregivers
  • Monitor the proper functioning of the department and its patient flow; provide advice on the organisation of different areas, including admission, transfer and discharge criteria
  • Provide advice on the procedure for referrals
  • Provide advice on medical protocols and process in line with Country & health sector protocols
  • Contribute to data analysis, monitoring and reporting with a view to improving quality of care

Profile :

  • Medical doctor degree
  • A minimum of 2 years professional experience
  • Recent clinical experience (at least six months within the last 24 months)
  • IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English
  • Available for a minimum three months
  • Commitment to Tdh and its work/values
  • Strong team player
  • Willingness to work in all kinds of contexts worldwide, including unstable areas
  • Adaptable and able to work in a multicultural team
  • Flexible and able to manage stress

Salary :

Expatriate contract under Swiss regulations 2’950 CHF (~2’550 €) < > 4’300 CHF (~3’700 €) net /month according to experience x 13, Holidays: 25 days per year. Local accommodation and transportation, Health insurance, accident and medical repatriation insurance, return flight.

Position subject to funding. Duration 6 months, more if funding available.
