Tdh :

Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss organisation for children’s aid. Since 1960, Tdh has helped build a better future for deprived children and their communities, making an impact with innovative and sustainable solutions. Active in more than 45 countries, Tdh works with local and international partners to develop and implement field projects which improve the daily lives of over 3 million children and their relatives, in the domains of health, protection and emergency relief. This engagement is financed by individual and institutional support, with administrative costs kept to a minimum.

 

 

Context :

Bangladesh faces many challenges: malnutrition, limited access to medical treatment and sanitation are a reality. Natural disasters regularly strike and the country faces an influx of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. The delegation team implements projects to improve the health of children and their mothers, particularly focused on peri-natal health and nutrition, DRR for flood affected communities, WASH in health care facilities, and child labour, and will also work with children affected by migration soon. We strengthen community and government actors to provide access to quality health care. We also train people to be better prepared for natural disasters. In Cox’s Bazar, the Humanitarian Department provide emergency aid in health, nutrition, child protection and WASH to Rohingya refugees and host communities. Tdh is currently undertaking a process to map out the long-term recovery strategy and develop a joint country strategy focused on emergency relief, long-term recovery, and development.

 

 

Responsibilities :

 

General Responsibilities

  1. To represent Tdh (also legally) and promote the globality of its mandate in the countries of intervention.
  2. In collaboration with the programs, to create the Strategic Planning (PS) of the interventions of the delegation, in compliance with the general reference framework.
  3. To create and guarantee the implementation of the Annual operational plans (POA) of the delegation while complying with the strategic planning and the internal processes (budget management, HR and logistics manager, quality of accountability).
  4. To guarantee the implementation of an operational risk management system in the Delegation.
  5. To manage the delegation teams.
  6. To ensure the internal and external communication of the delegation.

 

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Directs the revision of the intervention strategy for the country and its implementation, in collaboration with the headquarters.
  2. Controls the application and supervision of signed agreements between Tdh and its partners and local/national authorities.
  3. Leads in the development of new projects and proposals which align with Tdh’s global & country strategy.
  4. Manages relationships with bilateral and multilateral donors on a country level.
  5. Supervises the correct implementation of projects and develops advocacy strategies.
  6. Ensures the coaching of any collaborator under their responsibility, from the recruiting to the final collaboration reports.
  7. Uses good practices so that their management respects the values of Tdh.
  8. Applies and ensures the implementation of staff management policies within the delegation.
  9. Supervises the correct financial management of funds provided for the delegation.
  10. In coordination with the headquarters, directs the fundraising and the negotiations with funding partners present in the area of intervention.
  11. Fosters the correct communication and visibility of the projects and the Foundation.
  12. Is responsible for the implementation of policies on security, abuse, child protection and fraud prevention.
  13. Ensures the good reputation of the Foundation in the country.
  14. Develops synergies and partnerships with national and international actors present in the area.
  15. Ensures the correct flow of operational information within the delegation and with the headquarters (especially for institutional reporting).
  16. Ensures effective communication and interaction between delegation staff, Humanitarian Department staff, Regional Managers and Technical Advisors.
  17. Manages the relationship with the Humanitarian Department and supports in ensuring development and delivery of joint strategy, coordination on advocacy messages, and alignment with Government of Bangladesh policies and regulations.
  18. Ensures strong MEAL processes are acted on throughout the project cycle.

 

 

Profile :

Education: Master or training / experience considered as equivalent

Language: Excellent oral and written skills in English. Bangla and French an asset

IT Knowledges: Mastery of the usual tools

Experiences and aptitudes:

  • At least 5 years previous experience of seniority in an NGO at a management position in the field (expatriation)
  • Management experience and strong team leadership qualities
  • Successful track record of developing development and humanitarian strategies and securing high levels of funding from institutional donors (EC, DFID, USAID, ECHO; UN; etc.)
  • Experience of developing strategic partnerships
  • Experience of long-term recovery following emergencies
  • Experience of working in potentially unstable areas of intervention
  • Experience of leading teams through processes of change
  • Experience in areas of Tdh’s core activities an asset, particularly child labour, migration, and mother and new born child health (perinatal health and nutrition)
  • Strong knowledge of MEAL systems
  • Extensive project management experience (management; planning; staff development and training skills)
  • Experience of working in Bangladesh or South Asia an asset
  • Ability to work well and punctually under pressure
  • Management of time and priorities, meets deadlines
  • A commitment to excellence, attention to detail and ability to synthesize the information
  • Capacity to adapt your communication to the intercultural environment

 

 

Salary :

Expatriate contract under Swiss labour code 4 100 CHF (~3 400 €) < > 5 300 CHF (~4 400€) net salary/month according to experience x 13, Annual Leave: 25 days per year. Contract includes also local accommodation and transportation, health and repatriation insurance, return flight.

  • Commits to reducing the risk of abuse and harm by developing a culture of open and informed leadership within the organization and in our work with children and the communities in which we intervene in.
