SNV, Netherlands Development Organization, is Dutch-based, non for profit foreign charity operating in Ethiopia since the 1970s. Currently, SNV is working in the eight+ regional states of Ethiopia which include– Addis Ababa, Afar, Somali, Gambella, Benishangul, SNNPR, Oromia, Amhara and Tigray regional states, providing technical assistance and program implementation in the major 3 sectors including Agriculture, WASH, and Energy. SNV is an open and learning organization focuses on improving the lives of Ethiopian Need people through best practices in value chain, market, and youth and gender. Through its work in the three sectors, SNV in Ethiopia supports the development of a number of value chains and commodities to improve the Livelihoods. This takes a value chain and market development approach, with special focus on improving access to sustainable markets for smallholder farmers, youths, urban development and by developing business-to-business relations and improving business development services.

Project Background

Horti-LIFE project is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN) and implemented by SNV-Ethiopia in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture. The aim is to increase the productivity and food safety in the horticultural sector by supporting smallholder farmers, rural SMEs and supporting institutions. This second phase of the project duration is starting from 2019 up to 2023.

Job Description

SNV Ethiopia is looking for dynamic, experienced, talented, energetic, flexible, open and ready to learn candidates for the position of Senior Fruit Production Advisor for Horti-LIFE II Project

THE ROLE

The successful appointee will have access to start-up resources and some ongoing support and will be encouraged to apply for his/her own skills, knowledge and experience. This position is fully responsible for Establishing and support Farmer Field Schools on fruit production for semi-commercial fruit farmers; home gardens with subsistence households; Establish home gardens and fruit producing plots at universities and A-TVETs. All the works of this position is part of the work of the national and regional teams.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess the following Educational, Experience qualifications and requirements:

EDUCATION

An MSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (horticulture, plant science, extension, etc.) or a BSc with solid work experience in the private sector.

EXPERIENCE

–  A minimum of 10 years of work experience in horticultural production

–  Broad experience in capacity building, extension service, innovation

–  Solid knowledge of horticultural production processes in Ethiopia; Good network among the organizations relevant for horticulture innovation as well as network agencies and stakeholder that support the sector.

– Familiar with gender concepts in micro-finance and mainstreaming
