SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI’s interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, the SI teams – 3200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms.

About the mission

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, SI has been responding to the needs of the population living in areas under Government control. While programming in 2022 and 2023 was-rightly-focused on immediate emergency response, the year 2024 marked a transition toward a more balanced approach, combining both emergency and early recovery interventions. SI’s main strategic objective for 2025 is to strengthen and clearly position its comparative advantage in Ukraine. The ambition is for SI to build a recognized and demonstrable expertise in WASH and Shelter. The program strategy for 2025 therefore focuses on two core sectors-WASH and Shelter-and is structured around two strategic axes:1. Respond to both acute and chronic emergencies 2. Contribute to creating the conditions for dignified return or sustainable stay in stable areas through a recovery-oriented approach To maximize the impact of its interventions, SI aims to further enhance sectoral integration and promote localized approaches. In 2026, SI’s country program in Ukraine is expected to operate with a budget of approximately 10 million euros, with three field bases (Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv), one coordination office in Kyiv, and a total of 110 staff, including around 20 expatriates. The main donors in 2026 will be, in order of funding volume: CDC, AFD, BHA, and ECHO. Additional donors have been approached to expand and diversify the portfolio further, in line with SI’s programmatic priorities.   General objective: Oversees the CDCS/AFD funded project. Ensure Global coordination between SI, associated partners and key stakeholders. Provide a vision and develop an implementation strategy for the project. Ensure project is delivered on time, targets, budget and quality. Ensure compliance with donors’ rules and regulation. Ensure external represenation.   The main challenges: Nexus project (coherence across components to be found to ensure relevance and impact).Internal coordination : Multi-bases project and teams working with an ’emergency lense’ and with HQ. Specific AFD procedures to follow.   Priorities for the 2/3 first months: Monitoring of preliminary studies prior to construction. Launch of complementary activities based on results and activity schedule. Facilitate information flow between all stakeholders   Security constraints: Kyiv is security level 2/5 according to SI grading, showing an fair low residual security risk, Official nationwide curfew from 00h to 5,00am Regular air alerts and attacks from Russian Forces, particularly at night, can affect sleep,   A salaried position: According to experience, starting from EUR 2860 gross per month (2600 base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of EUR 700. SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s country of origin and the place of assignment. Breaks: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD 850 break allowance, allocated by Sl). To these breaks periods, SI grants one (1) additional rest day per month worked. Insurance package: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.   LIVING CONDITIONS: The offices and guesthouses are in the city center, offering many opportunities: Parks, restaurants, bars, and various sports facilities, music events Well-stocked supermarkets and local markets with fresh products at lower prices Easy access to ATMs, though it is common to pay by bank card The office is a 10 to 20-minute walk from the guesthouses. It is bright, spacious, and fully equipped with dual monitors for all staff Convenient walking, taxis, and subway options
