Humanitarian Director – Ethiopia
ROLEPURPOSE
As a member of the Extended Senior Leadership Team, provideleadership and strategic direction to all programmatic aspects of Save theChildren humanitarian and emergency response in Ethiopia.  Ensure programme activities are effective andmeet long-term goals and objectives of Save the Children, its donors, and thetarget population.  Ensure immediate andappropriate response to children’s needs during humanitarian crises.  Ensure cross sector collaboration amongtechnical units. Ensure funding proposals are produced and donor-reportingrequirements are adhered to, and are of the highest standard. Ensure that Savethe Children’s commitment to improving quality and accountability inhumanitarian work is upheld, and complies with all relevant policies andprocedures with respect to child protection, health and safety.
As member of the ESLT, the position holder is also expected toplay a significant role in ensuring gender equity among staff is maintainedacross the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS& EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in a relevant fieldrequired, Masters degree preferred
Recommended minimum of 8 years’experience in humanitarian programme management, preparedness and response inseveral fragile or complex contexts
Understanding of internationalhumanitarian aid systems and agencies
Experience of working in insecureenvironments
Ample knowledge of humanitarianresponse and transitional program concepts, policies, frameworks, strategiesand components, as well as development concepts and frameworks
Extensive on the ground experience inmulti-sectoral humanitarian response, including food aid programs
Experience in logistics management
Solid budgeting skills and knowledge ofkey donor regulations
Highly developed interpersonal andcommunication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
Highly developed cultural awareness andability to work well in an international environment with people from diversebackgrounds and cultures
Commitment to Save the Children’spractices and procedures and ways of working with children
Willingness to work and travel in oftendifficult and insecure environments
Fluency in English, both verbal andwritten

Contract length: Two years
