ROLEPURPOSE
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Deputy CountryDirector – Program Operations has a significant share in the overallresponsibility for the direction and coordination of the Country Office.  The Deputy Country Director of ProgramOperations in her/his capacity is responsible for implementation of all programimplementation (with the exception of research / technical projects) in countryincluding the management of all sub offices, humanitarian preparedness andresponse (including DRR).
Reportsto: Country Director
Dimensions: Save theChildren works in 8 regions in Ethiopia with a current staff complement ofapproximately 1,900 staff and current expenditure of approximately $100 +million each year.
Number ofdirect reports: Program Directors/ Chief of Parties / National Program Managers;Program Operations Directors, Supply Chain Director, Humanitarian Director.
QUALIFICATIONS& EXPERIENCE
Recommended a minimum of 10 years ofexperience in non-profit environment, including senior leadership experienceand field operations experience ideally running both emergency and developmentprograms.
Master’s Degree in development or othersocial sciences or relevant degree plus experience
Excellent interpersonal, communicationand presentation skills; excellent people management skills, experience ofmanaging and developing a team
Excellent external representationskills at high level with the government, donors and other partners
Solid project management skills relatedto organisational development projects and international, cross-functionalteams with a proven history of delivering results
Significant knowledge of internationalhumanitarian and development systems, institutions and donors, and ofprocedures, accountability frameworks and best practices in emergencymanagement
Excellent conceptual and analyticalskills, effective negotiator, with the ability to positively influence crossdepartmental and cross sectoral working relationship
Ability to think creatively to solveproblems with effective and efficient ways to accomplish goals
Ability to make decisions, work underpressure on a number of competing tasks meeting deadlines
Ability to work successfully in acomplex political environment and on sensitive issues
Flexible and adaptable to dynamicchanges and fast-paced work environment
Experience of solving complex issuesthrough analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy-in
Demonstrated experience working oncomplex, multi-partner projects in an international setting
Experience in, and/or knowledge of,Ethiopia or the region is preferred
Good understanding of sectoral programs(i.e. Education, Livelihoods, WASH, Child Protection, Health & Nutrition)and a working knowledge of the program priorities of the Country Office
An in-depth understanding of nationaland international development issues in particular in relation to children
Willingness to travel to implementationsites for technical monitoring and supervision visits
Ability and willingness to change workpractices and hours, and work with incoming teams in the event of majoremergencies
Fluency in written and spokenEnglish
Commitment to and understanding of Savethe Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
 Contract length: Two years
