Samoa Call for Low Value Grants to improve Socio-Economic Security of Women Market Vendors

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) welcomes expressions of interest from non-governmental organisations and civil society organisations (NGO/CSOs) engaged in and committed to gender responsive capacity building initiatives for increasing economic and sustainable livelihoods through climate smart agricultural practices and value adding for market vendors in Samoa.

The purpose of the grant is to engage a non-governmental or civil society organization organization that has a unique Samoan family development model to support climate smart agricultural products and value adding practices for income generating activities for vulnerable groups in particular women vendors and farmers in efforts to increase their socio-economic security.

Aimed at engaging with stakeholders who have a unique perspective on a development issue such as poverty alleviation through income generating activities for vulnerable groups. Vulnerable groups include rural population, women and girls, men and women vendors/farmers. The purpose of the grant is for activities such as building internal/institutional capacity; capacity training, experimentation, pilot testing of contextualized family business model program, fostering collaborative partnerships; advocacy and prevention initiatives using sustainable organic climate smart agricultural practices and solutions to alleviate poverty including income generating activities, platforms of good practices and learning and capacity building and so forth. In addition, organizations interested in applying shall adopt a human rights-based approach based on the principles of gender equality, non- discrimination, inclusion of marginalized or vulnerable groups when developing their proposals.

  • Grant Amount: 20,000USD
  • Implementation Period: June – December 2024 (within a Six-month period).
Eligible Country
  • Samoa
Eligibility Criteria 
  • The applicant is a registered Samoa CSO or non- government organization in operation for at least 2 years in Samoa with the required legal and service experience.
  • CSO is based in Samoa (International NGOs and CSOs not eligible)
  • The CSO applicant is not on the consolidated UN Security Council Sanctions list
  • The CSO applicant is not being investigated for fraud, corruption, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation or other wrongdoing.
  • The CSO applicant has a positive working experience as a partner for UNDP implemented projects of similar nature in the Markets for Change program
  • The CSO applicant is not a government entity, a UN organization or is receiving additional funds from any other UN Agency or DFAT for similar activities.
  • Technical Criteria
    • Organisation mission, vision and legal mandate with existing services aligned to Markets for Change Project activities in the required areas
    • Proven track record of implementing business and climate smart agricultural trainings for women market vendors using innovative sustainable modules.
    • Organisation has access and existing networks with local market vendors and farmers in Upolu and Savaii
    • Organisation has the technical capacity and experience to implement, monitor and report on the activities.
