This role exists to effectively and efficiently manage and deliver the ‘Obligation to Protect and Empower Girls’ (OPEG) project in Sudan. The incumbent coordinates the project technical teams and has overall responsibility for the project’s management including development of detailed plans, budget allocation, and delivery of the project within budget, scope and on time.
You will manage project resources and a budget of USD 3.5 million over a two-year period with a possible two-year extension. As well as being the line manager to five members of staff, you will lead annual reviews of the project proposal, budget, targets, and performance indicators to ensure plans are realistic. You will use organisational skills to work with staff and support teams to ensure the project is delivered on time whilst avoiding over/under expenditure.
It will be your role to establish and lead the Project Management Committee (PMC) and chair their meetings. You will share project achievements, best practices and models and ensure the PMC provides operational support to the project. You will represent Plan on project-related matters and attend all relevant coordination forums and events.
To be successful in this role, you will have previous project management experiences at field level with technical experience in gender equality and state advocacy. You will be knowledgeable on the Sudan context and have the ability to work in a challenging, post-conflict, complex environment. Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and English is essential.
You will have good communication skills in order to work together with the programme Technical Leads, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Influencing to collaborate on aspects of the project. You will also need to influence and liaise effectively with key stakeholders, such as local government authorities or UN representatives. You will be both innovative and creative and be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
You will need a bachelor’s degree related to Development Studies, Social Work, Child Rights, Gender Equality, or demonstrable experience in these areas, combined with a sound understanding of development issues relating to changing entrenched cultural norms.
