Panthera recuits 01 Field Camp Operations Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the joint Panthera/DPN Assirik Base, including the maintenance of base infrastructure such as buildings, solar installation, communications, borehole, airstrip and hangar. This work will be supported by qualified enterprises if and where needed, yet coordination of maintenance remains with the FOM;
  • Manage the procurement for the Assirik Base, including fuel and maintenance needs for the airplane, in collaboration with Panthera/DPN staff based at the park HQ in the town of Tambacounda;
  • Coordinate the regular maintenance and repairs of the area’s road network, in coordination with the DPN’s infrastructure team;
  • Lead the design and development of new park roads and water crossings, based on the infrastructure development plan elaborated with the DPN;
  • Lead the design and building of new light ranger bases in remote parts of the park, based on strategic needs developed with the DPN;
  • Provide logistical support to park protection activities in the south-east of the park, and, exceptionally, in other parts of the park;
  • Provide logistical support for selected Panthera- or DPN-led research and monitoring activities in the south-east of the park, and in other parts of the park as needed;
  • Coordinate the logistical side of the aerial surveillance program for the park, in coordination with the Project Pilot and Panthera/DPN staff in the park HQ.

Requirements

  • At least a university degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent;
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in Civil Engineering design and construction supervision activities, including roads and watercourse crossing structures;
  • Advanced training in the fields of road construction, construction and/or logistics and field operations
  •  Five years or more of track record in managing or coordinating infrastructural projects, preferably in protected areas in Africa and or Asia;
  • Proven five years’ experience in team management in Africa or Asia;
  • A good understanding of electric installation such as solar installations as well as vehicle mechanics, and full driving licence with documented off-road driving experience;
  • Knowledge of stock and asset management and procurement procedures;
  • A physical ability and willingness to work and live in a challenging field environment. The position will be based inside the national park, in a field camp with limited comfort;
  • Fluent in English and French;
  • Good organizational skills and a high degree of self-motivation, resistance to frustration and dedication to project objectives;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team, and lead and develop it where required;
  • A strong identification with Panthera’s mission and core values to support conservation efforts in Senegal to the benefit of local communities and future generations.

Contract Duration

Panthera will offer a 1-year contract, which will be renewed if both parties agree. The salary will be set corresponding with qualifications and experience.
