Project Overview and Role
The Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE) is a 7-year and €134 million programme funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that aims to create a prosperous future for 230,000 young women and men in the Middle East, North Africa, Sahel & West Africa and Horn of Africa regions. The Fund will be supporting initiatives in 12 focus countries that will offer youth, in particular young women, opportunities for work that is demand-driven and productive, offering a stable income and safe working conditions, and that is contributing to their personal development and social protection.
The portfolio of projects is selected from business cases that were proposed by private sector, civil society and knowledge institutions. Each business case has outlined scalable solutions for creating more and better jobs and income generating opportunities for youth. Solutions in particular focus on an integrated approach that addresses the shortcomings on the demand side (jobs) and supply side (skills) and bridging the mismatch between these two in the labour market.
Assignment Overview
Niokobok is a well established online retail company in Senegal. In January 2023, Niokobok launched “SuperLinguere” a new B2B sales channel allowing young women to start a reselling business on social networks thanks to Niokobok ecommerce infrastructure. SuperLinguere is a community and a life changing experience. Selected women start a business without capital and have access to 600 SKUs (target is 3,000 SKUs) at a discounted price. They focus on selling to their contacts, Niokobok handles everything (inventory, delivery…). They participate in coaching sessions, including peer coaching, and have access to training and social benefits. Their commissions are paid on a formal account, building a revenue history.
Offering a broad catalog at unbeatable price is the core of SuperLinguere value proposition. Niokobok is seeking a consultant to give the tools to the marketing team to manage its catalog.
Objectives and Activities
The objective of this sourcing assignment is to help the Niokobok team to identify the right suppliers for key products and get prices and payment terms for different volumes.
Deliverables
Scope:
- Product categories : Make-up Perfumes and air freshers Body, hair and facial care Baby products Tableware, glassware and plates Wigs and streaks Handbags and purses Jewels and watches Religious objects -Garments & lingeries Shoes Bedding Bazaar Appliances Fabrics & curtains.
- For each category, 5 products selected by Niokobok.
Table presenting, for each product and its suppliers:
- Negotiated prices corresponding to 3 different volumes scenario.
When possible, favorable payment terms.
- Contact details of suppliers.
Introduction meetings with the suppliers listed
Operational Arrangements
The consultant will report directly to the Country Lead and work closely with the Niokobok team.
Level of Effort and Reporting:
Up to 10 days, before End of November 2023.
Required Qualifications
- Business network in Senegal among potential suppliers for key categories.
- Good experience of doing business in Senegal, preferably in sourcing or general management.
- Good business acumen and negotiation skills.
- Good communication and appetite for training junior staff.
