Oregon Arts Commission welcomes for Artist Relief Program – U.S.

The Oregon Arts Commission, in partnership with Oregon Community Foundation and the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation, welcomes for its Artist Relief Program to provide relief funding to Oregon artists who have experienced financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic due to cancellations of exhibitions, performances, rehearsals or other activities with a stipend, events, teaching opportunities, book signings, or other professional presentation opportunities.

The program supports professional artists from the disciplines who have experienced or anticipate experiencing loss of revenue of $1,000 or more between March 1 and December 31, 2020.

Artistic disciplines supported: Literature (creative non-fiction, fiction, play writing and poetry); Dance (including choreography); Music (composition and music performance); Theatre and Performance Art; Folk & Traditional Arts; Visual Arts (crafts, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media and new media); Design Arts; and Media Arts.

Artists from underserved communities, including (but not limited to) rural communities and communities of color, as well as artists with disabilities, are especially encouraged to apply.

Funding Information

Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000.
Awards must be spent by July 31, 2021.
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must submit an individual application. While the Arts Commission acknowledges many artists work collaboratively, awards will be made only to individual artists.
At the time of the application deadline, all applicants must:
Be 18 years of age or older;
Have been domiciled in Oregon for at least one year (domicile is a person’s fixed, permanent and principal home for legal purposes);
Not be enrolled in a creative degree-bearing program either part-time or full-time;
Have a social security or individual taxpayer identification number;
Have ability to evidence, through appropriate documentation such as a resume, three (3) or more years of active professional participation in one or more of the supported artistic disciplines;
Have experienced or anticipate experiencing loss of revenue of $1,000 or more due to COVID-19 related cancellations of exhibitions, performances, rehearsals or other activities with a stipend, events, teaching opportunities, book signings or other professional presentation opportunities from March 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

The following review criteria will be used to evaluate applications (0 is the lowest score). The attached scoring rubric will guide panelists in scoring applications.

Professional Artistic Practice (0 to 30 points):

Clarity and coherence of artist practice or artistic point of view as demonstrated in artist statement or description of the applicant’s artistic practice;
Social, cultural or civic relevance of artistic practice; and
Active participation and regular creation of artistic work in one or more of the supported artistic disciplines as evidenced in resume or bio.
Impact of Cancellations and Loss of Revenue on Artistic Practice (0 to 30 points):
