The Open Society Foundation, Serbia has announced a call for proposals for project support.

The Open Society Foundation is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organization that develops and supports projects and activities aimed at developing a democratic culture, openness, respect for diversity, full respect for the human rights of all and promoting the principles of the rule of law, good governance and accountability and citizen participation in public to create preconditions for the sustainable development of a democratic and open society in Serbia.

Areas

Citizens ‘Activism and Democratization
Projects may be submitted for the competition:
facilitate the direct participation of citizens and their organizations in public affairs at all levels (from the local community and student parliaments to the national level) through organized platforms, networks of organizations or other institutionalized or semi-institutionalized forms of citizen participation;
affirm democratic and European values ​​and contribute to the advancement of policies and legislation in the European integration process, with a thematic focus on strengthening basic democratic institutions and practices, the rule of law and respect for human rights;
establish cooperation between academia, think tanks, trade unions, non-governmental organizations, informal groups and social movements, with the aim of opening dialogues and advocating for socially sustainable policies, solidarity and equity, especially in the areas of protection of social and economic rights, urban development and so-called digital revolutions;
encourage the democratic engagement of citizens in the local community with a view to pursuing public interest and preserving public space for dialogue and activist action;
innovative approaches that affirm pluralism and critically relate to extremist ideas and practices;
reinforce freedom of expression and advocate for the democratization of the media space and a level playing field for professional media;
are committed to safeguarding internet neutrality and advancing digital rights.
Public Integrity and the Fight Against Corruption
Projects may be submitted for the competition:
promote transparency, accountability and integrity in public sector work;
influence the strengthening of the integrity of media regulators and public media services;
strengthen citizens’ oversight of media funding from public sources and monitor the realization of the public interest;
emphasize respect for environmental principles in the areas of public procurement, public-private partnerships and state aid;
test and improve the existing degree of right of free access to information of public importance and protection of personal data.
Ethnic Minorties and the Inclusion of Roma
Projects may be submitted for the competition:
encourage inter-ethnic and intercultural dialogue and exchange and contribute to creating a social climate conducive to the multi-ethnic character of society;
create conditions for the promotion and better implementation of policies relevant to minority ethnic communities;
improve the knowledge and skills of ethnic minority stakeholders on existing anti-discrimination policies and mechanisms, as well as the conditions for their implementation;
develop programs and good practices that contribute to the prevention and protection against discrimination of Roma women in education;
encourage the involvement of local Roma communities in the effective implementation of public policies that ensure the exercise of rights and equal access to quality social services to the Roma community.

Funding Information

The total amount of funds earmarked for the funding of the projects raised through the competition is $ 1,100,000.

Projects can be submitted by civil society organizations and institutions (citizens’ associations, informal citizen groups, actors of independent culture and the arts, academic institutions, think-tank organizations, trade unions, media, etc.), national councils of national minorities, state and local authorities, institutions and institutions. etc.
The applicant must be registered or domiciled in the Republic of Serbia.
Priority will be given to projects that communicate directly and clearly with citizens, are based on innovative and creative approaches and methodologies, and liaise horizontally with other civil society actors.
