Cadre organisationnel

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa. UNON supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Resident Coordination System (RCS) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, security, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is in the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) in Niamey, Niger.

The mission of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office is to strengthen the impact of the operational activities for the development of the UN agencies, funds, and programmes at the country level by improving their coherence, efficiency and effectiveness. It promotes a coordinated multi-sectoral approach to meet the specific needs of host countries, under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator, by capitalizing on the comparative advantages of the various UN agencies.

In order to support young professionals, the Office of the Resident Coordinator (ORC), opens its doors to young interns who are called to acquire good knowledge on aspects related to the coordination of development and humanitarian aid work in Niger.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRCO) Niamey, Niger, Liaison and Archiving Internship is for 6 (Six) months.

The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsabilités

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the interns’ assigned office, and the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Resident Coordinator’s Office, the intern will:

– Identification of documents to be archived and digitized;

– Updating the existing archiving and digitization system;

– Archiving and digitization of PBF documents;

– The management of the Chronos of classification of the archives;

– Preparation and sorting of documents and correspondence;

– Dissemination of documents to key recipients according to appropriate routes.

Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect. Identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions. Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Formation

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);

c. Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).

Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies:

Archiving, Library Science, Business Administration or related field of study.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in written and oral English and French is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
