Context:Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, and in close coordination with the Regional Awareness Raising Unit inDakar, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of IOM The Gambia’s initiatives aimed at raising awareness, engaging communities and promoting safe and orderly migration.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:1. With close guidance from the Media and Communications Officer, contribute to the development and implementation of the mission’s awareness raising strategy that positions the mission as the lead development organization in promoting safe and orderly migration.2. Check the mainstreaming of the communication for development (C4D) approach in awareness raising initiatives.3. Utilize community and digital engagement platforms to participate in advocacy, outreach and social mobilization activities.4. Participate in stakeholder mapping and analysis to identify influential stakeholders, including migrant returnees, youth, artists and community leaders, to contribute to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting safe and orderly migration.5. Collect and assist in producing localized print and audio-visual content, including testimonials of returned migrants, which highlight the risks of and alternatives to irregular migration.6. Provide written analyses, inputs and basic technical guidance for initiatives aimed at building the capacities of media and civil society actors to help raise awareness on migration-related issues.7. Liaise with key institutional and civil society stakeholders to help drive awareness raising initiatives.8. Assist in the production of multimedia content for IOM The Gambia’s media channels.9. Monitor awareness raising activities, including the integration of gender considerations, and provide feedback for evaluation purposes.10. Undertake duty travel as needed.11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education• Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Arts, Social Sciences, Development Studies, International Affairs or a related field; or• University degree in the above with two years of relevant professional experience.
Experience• Experience in the application of the communication for development (C4D) approach;• Experience in the development, implementation and monitoring of community engagement initiatives;• Exposure to IOM’s institutional setting and or other international organizations;• Experience liaising with government, civil society and media partners;• Excellent grasp of migration dynamics in West Africa;• Work experience in the region is an advantage.
Skills• Skilled in digital content creation, including photography, videography, graphic design and editing;• Demonstrated high competency as a writer and editor in English.
LanguagesIOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
