Nominations Open for Jamnalal Bajaj Awards

Nominations are now open for Jamnalal Bajaj Awards to felicitate the efforts of women and men who have dedicated their life to Gandhian constructive work and the ideals which Shri Jamnalal Bajaj had cherished all his life.

Shri Jamnalal Bajaj (November 4, 1889 – February 11, 1942) – The man who participated in each of Mahatma Gandhi’s programs of Independence Movement on the one hand; and Constructive Programs on the other. 

He was among the stalwarts who gave of himself completely – mind, body and soul to India’s freedom struggle and courted arrest on several occasions. Shri Jamnalal Bajaj overreached himself in making words into deeds and played a stellar role in the implementation of various activities, be it for Khadi, Dalit – welfare, women empowerment, propagation of Hindi, village industries, ethics in business, or preservation of cattle- wealth through Goseva. Shri Jamnalalji used the personal wealth he created for societal welfare to benefit the poorest of the poor.

Objectives

  • The Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation has instituted four awards which are given annually.
  • The awards recognize and reward such individuals who have strived and effectively implemented Gandhian values ​​for amply enriching and bettering the lives of the communities.
  • The Foundation has instituted four awards which are given annually to recognize, honor and encourage the outstanding contribution of the selfless people towards the development and welfare of the society, rural community and the nation, at large.

Categories

  • There are three National Awards and one International Award as listed below:
    • National: Constructive Work following Gandhian principles in rural India
    • National: Application of Science and Technology for Rural Development
    • National: Development and Welfare of Women and Children (instituted in the memory of Padma Vibhushan Smt. Jankidevi Bajaj)
    • International: International Award for Promoting Gandhian Values ​​Outside India (presented to an individual holding a foreign passport and nationality)

Award Information

  • Each award carries a Citation, a Trophy and a Cash Prize of Rs. 10,00,000 (for the International Award, the Cash Prize is equivalent to foreign exchange).
  • Commemorating the 125th Birth Anniversary of Shri Jamnalalji in November 2014, the Foundation increased the earlier prize amount of Rs. 5,00,000 to Rs. 10,00,000 in each award category.

Rules for submission of Nomination

  • This Award is ONLY for an individual.
  • Nomination/s can be recommended by individual/s and/or institution/s. Institutions such as Universities, Research Organizations, Social Welfare Institutions, Khadi and Village Industries, Chambers of Commerce, Central & State Government Departments, Rural and Urban Local Bodies, Corporates, International Institutions and any such representative bodies are not considered for the awards, but it can send nominations of individuals.
  • Self-nomination is not recommended.
  • Nomination of the deceased will not be considered.
  • Submit factual information on the basis of the stated criteria.
  • Nomination/s of family member/s whose one member has already received Jamnalal Bajaj Award will not be considered.
  • Nomination of any individual, who has been a recipient of any of the Jamnalal Bajaj Awards in the past, will not be considered.
  • The Foundation may defer or withhold conferring the Award in any year, if in the opinion of the Council of Advisors of the Foundation, no nominee/s is/are found suitable for receiving the Award.
  • The Foundation reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Awards enforcing the force majeure in the occurrence of any natural or manmade events and/or due to unforeseen conditions that are beyond the control of the Foundation.
