The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) is inviting applications for Justice Involved Women: Developing an Agency Wide Approach Curriculum Update and Pilot.

The three-phased program uses a blended learning format which includes completion of assigned readings, surveys, on-line learning, webinars, on-site classroom training, follow up coaching and support. Program and participant evaluations are also required. Phase 1 consists of tasks to be completed by participants prior to the classroom portion of the training. Phase 2 is the on-site, classroom, training (2.5 days). Phase 3 consists of time-limited, remote coaching sessions to provide support by the assigned faculty coach to their designated participant teams in developing and delivering their proposed agency plan to leadership upon their return to their home agencies.

The program is designed for teams (3-4 participants) of organizational and agency leaders that are responsible for the development and implementation of policy, practice and provide leadership and supervision to staff who work with women in the justice system.

For example, teams may include agency and division directors, managers of functional areas (i.e. security, classification, and programming) and staff with supervisory responsibilities. The curriculum is built around topical areas. These areas include:

Physical plant (institutions and community corrections)
Management and operations
Staffing and training
Issues related to organizational culture
Management of justice involved women

Case and transitional planning

The goal of this project is to revise and update the curriculum for Justice Involved Women: Developing an Agency Wide Approach blended training curriculum utilizing the Instructional Theory Into Practice (ITIP) format.

Pilot the newly revised curriculum during first scheduled offering of Justice Involved Women: Developing an Agency Wide Approach program
Revise the curriculum upon completion of the pilot
Work with Technical Resource Providers to provide coaching after class offering
Funding Information

NIC expects to make one award for as much as $78,500.00 for a 12-month project period, beginning on September 1, 2020.

Eligibility Criteria

NIC invites applications from nonprofit organizations (including faith-based, community, and tribal organizations), for-profit organizations (including tribal for-profit organizations), and institutions of higher education (including tribal institutions of higher education). Recipients, including for-profit organizations, must agree to waive any profit or fee for services.
NIC welcomes applications that involve two or more entities; however, one eligible entity must be the applicant and the others must be proposed as sub-recipients. The applicant must be the entity with primary responsibility for administering the funding and managing the entire program.
