Opportunity
The purpose of this role is to:• Determine the correct, compliant HS code classifications for all Customs declarations and also quality check Customs declarations that are processed through the CHB execution department.• To ensure that Maersk Logistics & Services South Africa and its clients comply with all said Acts, Rules & Regulations set out by all Regulatory Departments that control the import, export and removal of both foreign and locally manufactured goods.

Key responsibilities• HS code / Tariff classification of all Import & Export files prior to framing of declarations.• HS code / Tariff determinations to Customs where required.• Assisting with complex Customs inquiries for customers.• Quality checking / validating of all types of Import & Export bills of entries prior to submission.• Familiar with all other types of documents such as but not limited to i.e. – DA63, DA 66, VOC’s, CR1, DA68, DA70, liquidations etc.• Familiar with Trade agreements (SACUM-UK, SACU-E EPA, RSA-EU TDCA, AGOA, EFTA SACU, MERCOSOR SACU, AFCFTA, GSP).• Lodging of Permission letters & Ad-Hoc procedures to SARS Customs and OGA’s.• Highlighting opportunities for processes / procedures to be automated whenever possible.• Familiar with Customs Stops/Detentions & Examinations (CBCU, Import team, TIU, Scanner unit and External services).• Drive an Operational Process excellence mindset across the VAS operations teams where process optimization, continual improvement and productivity improvements are of critical importance.• Ensure that all quality standards are met and that processes are adequately documented / adhered to ensuring compliance with the Quality Management systems.• To be an active team member who will exchange knowledge and expertise with other team members with the aim to achieve the optimal results for the client and Maersk.• Saving all literature, documents and correspondence to relevant folders including CargoWise One eDocs.• Deferment reconciliations.• Ensuring that all CHB functions are completed timeously and accurately.• Ensure effective implementation of policies, guidelines, processes and best practices into CHB, as required.• Work with other departments to ensure there is a well-established and mature communication line with Customs and affiliated parties within South Africa.• Assisting with any other requests from your direct manager.
We are looking for• Min 5 years’ experience in Clearing and Forwarding Industry• Grade 12 (Matric) & Logistics / Freight Forwarding & Clearing Certificate• SDS Clearing Part II certificate (Advanced clearing) or Equivalent• Computer skills – Excel, OneNote, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, etc. (beneficial)• Cargowise One experience is a benefit• Good communication and interpersonal skills• Passion for the industry
