Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for an Accounting Manager to lead our team in Mozambique. This person will be the anchor point for all accounting, compliance, and internal control related matters in the country as well as the senior liaison between the frontline and various GSC teams. 

The responsibilities of the Accounting Manager include ownership of and providing insight into the Financial Statements and handling the relationship with external parties such as various Government authorities, and auditors, where relevant. In addition, the Accounting Manager will need to be on top of governance, secure our licence to operate, ensure robust internal controls and protect and enhance our external reputation. 

The role entails building a trusted relationship with key internal and external stakeholders, leading without authority and working remotely with various teams to achieve desired outcomes.

Who You Will Work With:

Sitting within the broader Controlling function, this role reports to the SAI Area Finance Manager. This person will partner with multiple internal team members across various functions including, but not limited to, Area Accounting Manager

Regional Finance Controller, Global Service Teams, Country Management, Tax and Legal Team. Additionally, this person will interact with several of Maersk key external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

Accounting and Finance

Drive the collaboration with the various GSC accounting and finance teams to achieve desired outcomes using the standard MLOS routines

Own and provide insight into the Financial statements

Ensure that all ageing open items and exposures on the Balance Sheet are identified in a timely manner and are sufficiently mitigated by driving appropriate actions with the relevant parties

Drive the delivery of working capital across the country in close collaboration with GSC wherever applicable, including effective follow-up on any trapped/restricted cash balances in the country

Act as the focal point for all accounting and finance improvements within the country(example: banking solution improvements, local accounting GAAP implementation in SAP etc)

Ensure a timely book-close where still managed locally and in close collaboration with the GSC where already offshored

Ensure that the year-end audit and preparation of the Annual Financial Statements is completed timely in conjunction with the GSC and an unqualified audit report is issued for all entities within the country

Be a sparring partner to GSC project team to ensure an efficient (on time and on target) delivery of Project Green and challenge GSC on ability to deliver the expected outcomes through hyper-care

Compliance (Our licence to operate)

Maintain our license to operate, ensure we are a good corporate citizen and live up to our values and standards

Improve our external reputation and ensure we are in full compliance with all statutory obligations we have in the country

Engage with local authorities as needed (example: agency licenses, reporting requirements, foreign exchange control)

Be accountable for the timely preparation and distribution of the Board Meeting material for the country and ensure that the Board Meetings are conducted in accordance with the local legal requirements  

Take directions from the Regional Tax team in ensuring compliance with tax regulations, optimising tax cost and managing tax risk in the country

Control framework

Drive a robust control environment which mitigates all material control risks in the country

Ensure that any risks and control deficiencies raised by AFRBCO/GRA/GIA are addressed timely by driving the required actions and improvements

Ensure that the control self-attestation the countryis performed and reported correctly and is being performed consistently in an upright manner

Timely and comprehensive investigation of all fraud cases and incidents raised on the whistle-blower site for the countryin conjunction with AFRBCO/GRA/GIA, and drive actions required for closure and recovery of loss

Conduct Fraud Vulnerability Assessments and fraud awareness training in conjunction with AFRBCO/GRA/GIA, and ensure all material risks identified are sufficiently mitigated by driving required actions

Required experience, skills and competencies:

A financial educational background as Master’s degree in Finance, Tax, Accounting or a Chartered Accountant qualification

Prior proven experience (at least 3 years) in a similar function or in a consulting firm

Can lead without authority

Working remotely with various teams to achieve desired outcomes
