Nos armes ? Sensibiliser et mobiliser les citoyens, enfants comme adultes, utiliser notre expertise scientifique pour porter des actions de lobbying et transformer les entreprises.
Surfrider Foundation recherche son·sa Directeur·ice Général·e basé·e au siège social de l’association à Biarritz, France.
Mission :
En collaboration avec une équipe dynamique de 80 salarié·e·s et de nombreux bénévoles réparti·e·s à travers l’Europe, et en étroite concertation avec le conseil d’administration, vous assurerez le développement de la stratégie et du projet associatif, en veillant à leur déclinaison et à leur mise en œuvre opérationnelle.
Pour atteindre cet objectif, vous vous appuierez sur sept équipes métiers distinctes (Expertise, Lobbying, Éducation et Sensibilisation, Mobilisation Bénévole et développement Européen, Partenariats, Communication et Marketing, Administration et Finance), ainsi que sur plusieurs comités et instances de pilotage multidisciplinaires dans un cadre de gouvernance partagée, favorisant la participation et l’engagement de chacun.e dans la prise de décision.
Vos principales responsabilités seront :
- Garantir la vision et la mise en œuvre d’une stratégie globale impactante
- Co-construire les orientations et les positionnements avec le Comité Stratégique
- Accompagner les équipes dans la définition des plans d’actions et du budget annuel
- Superviser et piloter des différentes entités juridiques portées au sein de Surfrider
- Interagir avec le réseau international de Surfrider
- Assurer une veille et être force de proposition stratégique
- Assurer le pilotage et le management des équipes exécutives
- Manager, animer et dynamiser le Comité d’Orientation qui regroupe tous les managers d’équipe
- Elaborer et concrétiser les pratiques managériales de coopération et le système de gouvernance partagée en collaboration le Comité d’Orientation
- Accompagner l’évolution d’une structure organisationnelle en coopération
- Assurer les fonctions de gouvernances et de représentations
- Accompagner les instances de gouvernance dans leurs prérogatives (AG et CA)
- Participer activement aux rencontres avec partenaires, institutions, ée.s, médias …
- Représenter l’association lors de grands événements nationaux ou internationaux
- Elaborer des préconisations stratégiques et opérationnelles au CA (risque financier et investissements, orientations stratégiques, positionnements, …)

Your mission:
Working alongside a dynamic team of 80 employees and a network of volunteers across Europe, and in close partnership with the board of directors, you will oversee the development of the non-profit project strategy, ensuring its transposition into policy and its operational implementation.
In order to achieve this objective, you will channel the work of seven distinct functional teams (Expertise, Lobbying, Education and Awareness, Volunteer Mobilization and European Development, Partnerships, Communication and Marketing, Administration and Finance), as well as several committees and multi-disciplinary steering bodies operating as part of a shared governance framework, encouraging each and every individual to engage and participate in the decision-making process.
Your primary responsibilities will involve:
- Ensuring the vision and implementation of an impactful global strategy
- Co-developing orientations and strategic positions alongside the Strategic Committee
- Supporting the teams in the definition of action plans and the annual budget
- Supervising and steering the various legal entities maintained within Surfrider
- Interfacing with the Surfrider international network
- Monitoring developments in the sector and proposing new strategic initiatives
- Ensuring the steering and management of executive teams
- Managing, leading and galvanising all our team managers via the Orientation Committee
- Developing and materialising managerial cooperation practices and the system of shared governance, working alongside the Orientation Committee
- Guiding and supporting the evolution of a cooperative organisational structure
- Overseeing the correct functioning of governance and representative bodies
- Guiding and supporting governance bodies in their prerogatives (AGM and Board of Directors)
- Actively participating in meetings with partners, institutions, elected officials, media organisations, etc.
- Representing the association at major national and international events
- Developing strategic and operational recommendations for the board of directors (financial risk and investments, strategic orientations, positioning, etc.)

Nous recherchons une personne de formation supérieure (bac +5) avec un minimum de 10 ans d’expérience dont 5 dans la direction de structure de taille équivalente, lui permettant d’avoir acquis la plupart des compétences et connaissances suivantes :
- Organisation, esprit de synthèse, rigueur
- Capacité à dynamiser une équipe dans un contexte multiculturel
- Aptitude à prioriser et à négocier
- Intérêt marqué pour le secteur de la transition écologique
- Connaissance du modèle économique des associations
- Expérience en gestion de projet et suivi budgétaire
- Connaissance du milieu des ONG et des réseaux environnementaux européens
- Maîtrise des langues : français et anglais bilingues, et de préférence une autre langue européenne

Expertise & Experience:
We are seeking a candidate with higher education qualifications (MA or equivalent) and a minimum of 10 years experience, 5 of which will have been in the management of a structure of equivalent size, enabling the candidate to have acquired most or all of the following skills and expertise:
- Organisation, ability to see things from a global perspective, thoroughness
- Ability to galvanise a team in a multi-cultural context
- Skilled at prioritising and negotiating
- Proven interest in the ecological transition sector
- Familiarity with the non-profit economic model
- Experience in project management and budgetary oversight
- Knowledge of the NGO sphere and European environmental networks
- Linguistic proficiency: bilingual in French and English, preferably with another European language

Rémunération : Entre 48 000 et 55 000 € bruts annuels selon profil et expérience.

The position is based in Biarritz, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and will involve travel within Europe
The position carries Executive-Managerial status under French law (cadre dirigeant)
The position falls under the ECLAT collective bargaining agreement
Salary: €48,000 – €55,000 gross annual salary, based on candidate profile and experience.
