Logan Nonfiction Program 2018 Fellowship at Carey Institute for Journalists and Filmmakers (Funded)

Deadline: June 15, 2018

The Logan Nonfiction Program is accepting applications for the Fall 2018 fellowship taking place at the Carey Institute for Global Good. The mission of the Logan Nonfiction Program is to support democracy by advancing independent journalistic inquiry and investigation.

The program has three primary goals: supporting ethically uncompromised accountability journalism; advocating for and promoting independent nonfiction in the U.S. and globally; and increasing the professional skills and expertise of journalists and nonprofit reporting organizations so their work is amplified and has a positive impact. Writers, documentary filmmakers, photographers, and multimedia producers working on longform, deeply reported nonfiction projects are invited to apply.

Fellowship Provision

The program provides fellows with lodging, meals, mentorship, and community for up to 10 weeks.

Eligibility

  • Open to professional journalists, documentarians, nonfiction writers and filmmakers working on topics representing socially relevant political, health, environmental, human rights, and justice topics.
  • The Carey Institute has a strong tradition of internationalism, and welcomes applicants from around the world.
  • Applicants are judged based on professional experience and the quality, relevance, and promise of the project they propose to work on during their stay.
  • Prospective fellows commit to at least five weeks in residency but are encouraged to stay for the full 10-week duration.
  • The Carey Institute encourages applicants of all backgrounds to apply for admission, and does not discriminate in its programs and activities against anyone on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, ancestry, disability, HIV status or veteran status.
  • Small groups (2 to 3 individuals) of documentarians, journalists or nonfiction writers wishing to work collaboratively are encouraged to apply. Each member of the group will need to submit an individual application and select the “Collaborative Teams” option on the questionnaire.
  • Professionals who work in languages other than English are welcome to apply if they can supply samples of work in translation as well as in the original.
  • A working knowledge of English is necessary for international applicants. The Carey Institute does not provide an interpreter for residents who speak little or no English.
