Applications are open for the Kinship Regional Conservation Workshop – Mexico 2018. Targeting the early-career professional, regional workshops are designed to advance the development of market-based tools in areas of the world where there is an identified training need and such approaches remain underutilized.
During this five-day workshop, participants will attend lectures, participate in discussions, and take an all-day field trip to see incentive-based conservation projects in action. This is a unique opportunity for early-career Mexican conservationists to learn about experiences of incentive-based conservation from around the world.
Workshop Topics
- Theory and global experiences in the use of economic tools in community-based conservation
- Incentive-based conservation in Mexico
- The role of economic principles in incentive-based conservation
- Markets for water, carbon and ecotourism: local experiences from Latin America
- Financial tools: how Mexico can use global markets for local conservation benefits
- Bringing it together: the future of incentive-based conservation in Mexico
Cost
- Kinship Foundation will cover all workshop expenses, including lodging, food, classroom materials and field trips, but participants must arrange and pay for their transportation expenses to/from Merida. Limited travel assistance may be available for those who qualify.
Eligibility
- Open to early-career Mexican conservationists with at least three years of experience in natural resource management, preferably with some knowledge of incentive-based conservation tools. Space is limited to 30 attendees.
