ISIF Asia seeking Applications for 2020 Internet Operations Research Grants

 

The Information Society Innovation Fund (ISIF Asia) is seeking applications for its 2020 Internet Operations Research Grants to support the development of an independent Internet research community in the Asia Pacific.

The 2020 Grants will support two research and development projects focused on the availability, reliability, and security of the Internet, with a particular focus on practical solutions around operational stability and security.

Innovation and a development focus must be an integral part of the project proposal. Proposals must also include a concrete outcome aimed to expand access to knowledge, expand coverage for research applications and maximize the benefit to the community, an implementation plan, a realistic time-frame and a detailed budget breakdown.

Focus Areas

Research proposals must be focused on one or more of the following three areas:

Practical solutions that promote the use of registry data through Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP).
Tools and applications that facilitate analysis of live or historical datasets related to Internet infrastructure and its security.
Funding Information

Two small grants of USD 30,000 USD will be allocated, for a total of USD 60,000 in funding.
Grant applications must include a realistic timeframe for project implementation that is achievable in a maximum of 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria

Project proposals submitted by public or private sector organizations, university or research and development institutions, governments and non-government organizations will be considered. Community networks, Members of Network Operators Groups (NOGs), members/partners of IXPs, operators of root servers are encouraged to apply. Postgraduate students are encouraged to apply, with support of their universities. Projects lead by women and where women have an active technical role are specially encouraged to apply in all categories.
Grant applicants should demonstrate capacity to manage funds, conduct project activities and document outcomes effectively, within the specified budget and time limits. Administrative overheads will not be funded.
