IRC’s Awards Management Unit (AMU) is a global unit with the responsibility for identifying, securing, and managing all funding from statutory/government donors. The AMU is a link between donors and the field: providing expert technical advice to the field, while maintaining portfolio-level visibility to ensure consistency and compliance and manage risk.

Key Accountabilities

The Regional Grants Advisor (m/f/d) is part of AMU and will provide selected regions with the capacity to ensure compliance with donor rules and regulations and high-quality reporting and awards management. The Regional Grants Advisor (m/f/d) will:

•  Oversee and support country offices implementing and managing a diverse portfolio of awards funded by German and European donors.
•  Conduct regular monitoring of awards both in person and remotely.
• Review and provide substantive feedback on reports and some proposals as requested collaborating with and ensuring input from relevant technical and financial staff.
• Maintain day-to-day communication with donors.
• Support budget realignments and grant amendments/modifications.
• Assist country offices with ad-hoc queries on donor compliance issues.
• Provide best practice advice related to grant management.
• Develop training materials and carry out training of IRC field staff.
• Ensure lessons learned from completed projects are fed into the Program Development team.
• Support country programs in following internal IRC policies and procedures.
• Represent IRC externally at meetings, with donors and stakeholder networks.

Requirements

• Degree, preferably in a subject related to IRC’s work or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of German and English at C1-C2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference. Knowledge of French or Spanish is considered an important additional asset.  
• Experience with and a good understanding of European institutional donors (DG ECHO, GFFO, GIZ and BMZ)
• Good understanding of humanitarian aid and development programming
• Experience in working at a distance and supporting field-based staff
• Experience writing, reviewing, and editing narrative and financial reports and excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team and handle a multifaceted workload
• Good financial management and budgeting skills
• Ability to analyse and synthesise information
• Confirmed organizational skills, accuracy, ability to prioritize tasks and to learn quickly
• Ability to work on own initiative
• Good IT skills (Word, Outlook, Excel)
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally, sometimes on short notice and to secure areas

The employment contract will initially be limited to two years with the aim of turning this into a permanent employment relationship.
