CONSULTANCY FOR TRANSLATION SERVICES UNDER EUTF- IOM INITIATIVE IN WEST AFRICA

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and nongovernmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

The IOM Regional Office for west and Central Africa is seeking offers for technical assistance in translation of various documents, including technical, information and communication materials.

CONTEXT The Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration in Africa (EUTF — IOM initiative in West Africa) supports the efforts of African partner countries along the Central Mediterranean migration routes to strengthen migration governance and respond to urgent protection needs of migrants. The Initiative implements projects in 14 countries alongside a regional component: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Ghana, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, The Gambia, and Libya. The main areas of activity include:

(i) Increasing protection and assistance for vulnerable and stranded migrants;
(ii) Facilitating voluntary return;
(iii) achieving sustainable reintegration;
(iv)enhancing government and stakeholder policies and responses; (v) giving access to accurate information; and (vi) improving data on migration flows, routes and trends as well as migrants’ needs and vulnerabilities.
Under the supervision of the Regional Coordination Unit sitting at the IOM Regional Office for West and Central Africa, located in Dakar, the selected applicants for translation services will provide punctual translations of various materials that are deemed to support country missions in their project implementation and to facilitate common approaches that are incentivized by the Regional Coordination Unit in Dakar, in terms of technical and operational guidance, communication and learning.

OBJECTIVES :

The purpose of this call for CVs is to get experienced translators to provide technical assistance in translation for various documentations developed under the European Union Trust Fund initiative in West and Central Africa.
The successful service provided will be expected to translate documents such as proposals, project reports, technical documentation such as SOPs (Standardized Operational Procedures) and other digestible information and communication materials that would be disseminated across the initiative in West Africa, and beyond.

TASKS TO BE PREFORMED UNDER THIS CONTRACT Under the supervision of the EUTF Regional Coordination Officer, the incumbent will provide translation of varieties of project documents including technical documents that could be shared internally or for external communication;

Translation of EUTF IOM related documents from English to French as well as from French to English will be expected according to RCU IOM’s needs;

The selected applicants will be kept in our translation consultants’ rosters for a period of one year staring February 1st 2018.

Selected applicants will be expected to provide sample documents of previous translation services Selected applicants can also be expected to work from the office based in Dakar (if needed, depended on the piece to be translated)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

University degree in Translation (English/French) At least 3 years of professional experience in translation. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrable experience in translating variety of documents for civil society organizations, NGOs, research centres etc.

Native speaker of any of the languages (French/English)
