The Regional Office for West and Central Africa provides direct support to the Organization’s crisis-related work including preparedness, response, risk reduction and support to recovery, transition, and peacebuilding processes.
The portfolio includes also support to refugee resettlement and population movement operations.
The region is affected by sudden and protracted crises inducing population movements such as the Malian crisis, the Central African Republic crisis, the Lake Chad Basin Crisis, recurring flooding in most countries during the rainy season, as well as the ongoing drought, food insecurity and insecurity in the Sahel region.
More recently, the Mali-Niger-Burkina Faso triangle is seeing increasing inter-community conflict and displacement.
Under the direct supervision of Regional Emergency and Post Crisis (EPC) Specialist in Dakar, the overall supervision of the Regional Director for West and Central Africa and in coordination with the relevant Department of Operations and Emergencies (DOE) Units in HQ, the successful candidate will act as IOM’s Regional Emergency and Post-Crisis Officer.
The Regional Emergency and Post Crisis Officer will monitor and analyze regional thematic trends; support regional and at the Country Offices’ level thematic project and strategy development; support the review and endorsement of projects and reports related to the EPC thematic area of expertise in the region and support field assessments and operations.
