Background

The Roving Supply Chain & Logistics Manager role(s) is a key versatile member of the Global Supply Chain & Logistics function. The role holder will be expected to play a key leadership role in tactical deployments, in emergency responses as well as in steady state humanitarian programs. The role holder will also support capacity building and functional performance improvement initiatives in assigned region/countries as part of regional supply chain strategy deployment.

Job Purpose

This position is expected to be a feeder role to identify and develop capacity to transition to senior roles within the organization. The career pathways from this role includes Country head of Logistics & Supply chain roles, Regional Logistics Coordinator roles & functional specialist roles.

The position will report to a senior manager in the Global Supply Chain & Logistics function. The role holder will be expected to be flexible to deploy 100% as required to IMC country programs (expected deployment of approx. 80-90%). The position is being advertised to build a talent pool of suitable candidates to fill future vacancies.

Main Responsibilities

  • Providing supply chain leadership & management support as required through tactical deployments to country programs.
  • Being a rapidly deployable resource to emergency responses.
  • Leading on driving supply chain change & capacity building initiatives through the global supply chain excellence program, in assigned region/countries.

Providing supply chain leadership & management support to country programs

  • Act as a senior deployable resource to take up senior country roles on interim basis when needed, demonstrating expertise in all functional areas of supply chain & logistics management.
  • Be able to act as a trouble shooter to solve specific functional issues in country programs.
  • Provide additional surge support at critical moments of project implementation.

Emergency Responses

  • Be able to function as a rapidly deployable resource; able to quickly acclimatize, take stock of the situation and set up well performing logistics, procurement and supply chain functions in an emergency response. This will include deploying technical logistics & allied skillsets (field base set up, communications, power, cold chain management).
  • Will be expected to be a part of IMC’s Field Hospital platform when deployed.
  • Contribute to assigned emergency preparedness activities.

Supply chain change & capacity building

  • Be able to lead global supply chain change (improvement & excellence) initiatives (Strategic Procurement, LMIS, Planning, Optimization, KPI’s, etc) implementation in a country mission.
  • Demonstrate deep functional expertise in several supply chain & logistics functional domains.
  • Contribute to development of the capacity of country supply chain & logistics teams through structured and self-initiated training and capacity building activities.
  • Demonstrate and coach country supply chain & logistics teams in a culture of continuous improvement within a KPI based functional performance management framework.
  • Willingness to occasionally deploy for extended periods on short notice and work in austere, dangerous, and/or post-disaster contexts.
  • As with all management positions, the role holder will be expected to demonstrate flexibility to take on additional responsibilities as mutually agreed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent qualifications in Supply Chain, Procurement or Logistics from a reputed university.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in humanitarian &/ development supply chain & logistics management at country &/ regional/HQ levels supporting large program portfolios in leading agencies.
  • Alternatively, a very strong private sector, senior supply chain profile with some exposure to humanitarian operations.
  • Preferred experience in health & integrated thematic sector programs.

Competency

  • Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret, technical and non-technical material in the English language. Additional linguistic skills in other languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese) is a strong plus.
  • Excellent soft skills, with a high degree of influencing and communication skills through a variety of media (presentations, email, inter personal, remote communications, etc.) with a high degree of cultural awareness and change management sensitivity.
