International Humanitarian Law and Prevention of Sexual Violence in the Central African Republic

British Embassy Kinshasa: International Humanitarian Law and Prevention of Sexual Violence in the Central African Republic

Deadline: 21 May 2018

The British Embassy in Kinshasa (BEK) is accepting project proposals for the 2018/2019 financial year (April 2018-March 2019) under its “International Humanitarian Law and Prevention of Sexual Violence in the Central African Republic” project.

Thematic Areas

This year BEK is seeking to implement a project in the Central African Republic (CAR) that focuses on the following thematic areas:

  • International Humanitarian Law: Building capacity of the FACA and the police by promoting compliance with IHL.
  • Preventing Sexual Violence: The UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) aims to address the culture of impunity, ensure more perpetrators are brought to justice and provide better support for survivors. To do this, the BEK is supporting the International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict, campaigning to raise awareness, rallying global action, promoting international coherence and increasing the political will and capacity of states to do more.

Outcomes

The BEK is particularly interested in project proposals aiming towards the following outcomes:

  • Measurable increased awareness of the international rules governing protection of the victims of armed conflict and the conduct of military operations, including rules relating to the prevention of sexual violence in conflict.
  • Measurable outcomes of improvement of the behaviour of the armed forces and the police, including in relation to preventing sexual violence.

Funding Information

  • Projects are funded for a single financial year running from 1st April 2018 to 31st March 2019, with no expectation of continued funding beyond this period.
  • Minimum budget limit: $10 000
  • Maximum budget limit: $77,000
  • Projects should plan to run from June/July 2018 and to spend at least 90% by the end of November 2018, with 100% spend by the end of February 2019.
