International Crisis Group recruits 01 Volunteer Intern, Climate, Environment and Conflict
The International Crisis Group is seeking a voluntary intern to assist its analysts in their African research activities. This is a desk-based position. The voluntary internship is an excellent opportunity for someone to learn about climate, environment and conflict analysis, as well as gain valuable experience in a high-profile international NGO.
Responsibilities
- Researching and drafting climate security risk assessments, literature reviews, and country backgrounders on relevant climate and conflict risks for the Climate, Environment and Conflict Senior Analyst;
- Monitoring relevant global and regional developments, such as extreme weather events, via online sources;
- Coding and classifying news articles, social media posts, and other material for content in preparation for writing situation reports and providing quantitative analysis;
- Supporting the production of data visualizations and statistical analyses;
- Assisting in editing reports and briefings on climate and conflict issues;
- Prepare advocacy and research materials such as talking points for senior analysts and provide note-taking for relevant events and meetings.
Qualifications
- Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills;
- A background in political science, economics, data science, public policy, conflict studies, environmental studies, international development, sociology, or a related field;
- Understanding of environmental politics and climate finance is an asset,
- Fluency in verbal and written English; knowledge of French is an asset,
- Experience working with Excel (especially in collecting or working with social science data).
- While not required, some experience with data visualization and statistical analysis in Stata, R, Python, or similar is a plus.
Based in Nairobi, Senegal, or remotely for a duration of 3 to 6 months, starting in late November or December 2024.
