Impact Fund: Funding Nonprofits for Environmental, Racial, and Social Justice (US)

Impact Fund: Funding Nonprofits for Environmental, Racial, and Social Justice (US)

Deadline: 09-Jan-2025

The Impact Fund makes recoverable grants to nonprofit organizations, solo practitioners, and small law firms involved in impact litigation.

They fund economic, environmental, racial, and social justice cases that will benefit a community facing systemic oppression. Most of their grants are for class actions, but they also fund multi-plaintiff and environmental justice cases that aim to significantly affect a larger system or lead to meaningful law reform. Impact Fund grants may be used for out-of-pocket litigation expenses such as expert fees and discovery costs, but not for attorneys’ fees, staff, or other overhead.

Funding Information
  • The maximum grant size is $50,000.
  • They do make grants in that amount, but their average grant size is around $20,000.
  • There is no minimum grant size.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Any nonprofit organization, solo practitioner, or small legal firm that is involved in a public interest impact lawsuit is eligible to apply. Let them know if you have questions about whether you or your organization would be eligible.
