ICNL: Promoting a Favorable Legal Environment for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO)

The International Center for the Law of the Non-Profit Sector (ICNL) is currently seeking applications for organizations not governmental agencies in Guatemala for a grant of up to US $ 20,000 for carry out activities related to the challenges of the legal environment that affect NGOs in the country.

The grant will support the efforts of local partners to:

  • Analyze the challenges of the legal environment based on national law and law compared.
  • Promote greater knowledge among NGOs in Guatemala about the challenges of the legal environment and its impact on the civil sector.
  • Develop informed dialogues between representatives of the NGO sector Guatemala and Government entities and or the Legislative Power.
  • Identify opportunities to promote legal reforms in both the Power Executive as in the Legislative Power.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants must be national Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating in Guatemala.

Selection Criteria

  • Familiarity and experience in the design of research methodology, Legal research methodology, report writing and publication.
  • Demonstrable ability to convene and conduct activities to create capacities for NGOs from various thematic and geographical areas and others civil society actors such as academia, professional groups and journalists.
  • Evidence from research publications will be considered an advantage on issues that include the legal environment for civil society or related topics.
  • It will be considered an advantage if the organization is a member of a group or network of organizations that have carried out advocacy activities on issues related to the legal environment for civil society.
