JOB CONTEXT:

HI is providing emergency rehabilitation in support to the regional hospital as well as psychosocial support to victims and their caregivers. An Emergency mobile team project is also in place in Kunduz, Herat, Kandahar and Herat providing basic rehabilitation, psychosocial support and Mine risk education.

 

Nationally, HI is a strong actor on promoting and advocating for the rights of CW/IED survivors and other people with disabilities as a whole and provides technical support to Afghan authorities and other key stakeholders through various disability and Victim Assistance (VA) coordination forum and networks.

HI in Afghanistan currently operates projects both with partners and directly, these are managed by about 265 national staff in five locations, three bases (Kandahar, Nimroz, Kunduz and Herat) and Kabul main office and recently began to work in Nimroz with remote management from Kandahar.

 

HI in Afghanistan is looking for a Staff Care Specialist for 6 months

 

YOUR MISSION:

Under the hierarchical management of the Support Service Coordinator(SSC), and in direct functional contact with the staff care psychologist at headquarters, you will be responsible for developing a staff care component and ensuring quality staff care service for internal staff of Handicap International. A team of Staff Care Psychosocial Workers (PSSWs) will be based in five different field bases under your functional responsibility.

 

The mission is intended to design and put in place a staff care policy, action plan and staff care interventions for HI staff. This mission will be undertaken in collaboration with the Staff Care Psychosocial Workers under your technical guidance.

 

The activities providing and promoting staff care to the above-mentioned public, consist of:

– Building capacity, supervising and accompanying the Staff Care Psychosocial Worker’s team in their functions. – Provision of clinical supervision to the PSSWs.

– Work-related stress management, self-care workshops and other psychoeducation activities including support groups.

– Individual counselling sessions on request from employees and/or by referral from PSSWs.

– Psychological first aid following a critical incident and/or any institutional decision that may lead to a great impact on the staff including individual and collective debriefing when needed, and individual follow-up. Maintain good coordination with external actors   for referral (when applicable) to other health actors in this field of the intervention zone.

– Monitoring and reporting on staff-care related aspects.

 

YOUR PROFILE:

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree or Masters in Psychology, Clinical psychologist or psychotherapist, with clinical experience in intercultural situations and/or staff care.
  • You have 2 years in clinical practice, including traumatized people and at least 1 year in a humanitarian mission within an international organization.
  • You show good managerial skills and abilities to work autonomously while being able to adapt tools and knowledge to the cultural context
  • You speak English, and speaking Pasto or Dari would be a strong asset.

 

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION:

  • Security is a major concern in Afghanistan with potentiality for kidnapping, regular terrorist attacks in the cities. With the end of the conflict and the country now under control of IEA, movements and operational environment will be very restricted in the short to medium term, with opportunities to improve as the Government Settles.
  • Very limited recreational and leisure activities are available. Freedom of movement is limited in all bases and expatriates always travel in cars with accompanied national staff member all the time adhering to security protocols. It is expected that expatriates may be confined to the guest house frequently.
  • Accommodation is in a secure guest house, close to the office, with other expatriates. The guesthouse is spacious with independent rooms; however acceptance of collective life is required. There is a cook (except during the weekends) and other staff who do the laundry and cleaning. Western goods can be found in expat supermarkets. The office and the guesthouse in Kabul are located with most NGOs around.
  • It is expected that the position will be based fully in Kabul.

  • 6 months International contract starting as soon as possible.
  • The international contract provides social cover adapted to your situation:
    • Unemployment insurance benefits for EU nationals
    • Pension scheme adapted to the situation of our employees: If you already have a personal pension scheme HI will contribute at the same level of your personal monthly contribution with a maximum of 53€/month ; If you do not have a personal pension scheme, we will open a private pension account with your contribution of 272.53€/month and a contribution of HI of the same amount
    • Medical coverage with 50% of employee contribution
    • Repatriation insurance paid by HI

 

  • Salary from 2757€ gross/month upon experience
  • Perdiem: 456,03 € net/month – paid in the field
  • Hardship: 500 € net/month paid with your salary
  • Paid leaves: 25 days per year;
  • R&R: 5 days every 6 weeks
  • Position: unaccompanied (Payment for travel costs (air ticket & visa) and transport of your personal effects)
  • Housing: Collective taken in charge by HI
