CONTEXT & OBJECTIVES:

Humanity & Inclusion’s Operation’s Division is composed of 5 Geographical divisions, 4 Technical divisions, an Emergency Division and an Information, Impact & Innovation Division.

 One of the 4 Technical Divisions is the Prevention and Health direction. Its aim is to make sure that “Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages” can become a reality for people with disability and vulnerable populations all along the various Nexus contexts.

We focus on prevention of preventable impairments and disability inclusive health, and we work more specifically on road Safety and Safe Mobility (1 specialist), Mental Health and Psycho social support (4 specialists), Non communicable diseases (1 specialist), tropical neglected diseases, Sexual and Reproductive health, including Family planning, HIV, Maternal, newborn and child health (2 specialists) and Disability Inclusive Policies (1 Lead).

HI is a world leading actor in Road Safety and is currently one of only a few international NGOs fighting to put road safety on the development agenda and advocating for safety measures to protect vulnerable road users. We implement road safety programs designed to reduce the number of accidents and assist victims in places like Benin, Cambodia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Laos, and Vietnam.                                           Staff members collect and analyze data on road crashes; provide support and training to local NGOs, transportation specialists, police, and teachers; run awareness campaigns; and provide first aid at the scene of crashes.

After 10 year of successful projects implementation we are redefining the strategic orientation and the perimeter of HI interventions by expanding the boundaries of our scope to Safe Mobility. In a nutshell, building on our existing expertise in the five pillars of road safety programming as proposed by UN, we want to open up to Safe Mobility as the ability for a person to safely and reliably access preferred destination by navigating an environment considerate of his or her needs and preferences.

Therefore, we look at the whole mobility chain, i.e. the entirety of a person’s journey, for example going from one person’s home to the bus stop, boarding the bus, traveling to the desired stop and eventually, the intended destination. We believe that Safe and inclusive mobility can have a domino effect towards enhancing an inclusive society that leaves no one behind.

Hi is looking for a dynamic and motivate Road Safety/ Safe Mobility expert to lead this new development phase.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the responsibility of the Prevention & Health Director, you main responsibilities are:

Road Safety & Safe Mobility programmes/projects receive appropriate technical support

• Technical support to teams with ongoing projects

• Support, training and evaluation mission

Business Development: Growth in the Safe Mobility sector is assured

• Identification of funding opportunities

• Representation to donors

• Support of the field teams in the development of new proposals

Capitalization: The association’s individual and collective knowledge, skills and know-how in the field of road safety are capitalized and shared:

• Update of the Road Safety Policy Paper, website & HI Inside

• Development and contribution of new resources and publications

Networking: The association’s individual and collective skills and know-how in the field of road safety are promoted externally

– Active participation in international networks on Safe and Inclusive Mobility

DESIRED PROFILE:

• You hold a degree in relevant fields or demonstrable experience in the field of Road Safety, Urban and Inclusive development, Safe Mobility, Unintentional Injury Prevention, Public Health .
• You have Previous experience on Road Safety/ Safe Mobility in comparable setting (LMIC)
• Excellent and proven familiarity with the RS/ Safe Mobility international context, with deep technical understanding of the main stakes.
• You are fluent in English & French ; Spanish is an asset

 CONDITIONS OF THE POSITION:

• Type of contract : 18 months contract starting from January 2020

• Based in HI HQ: preferably in Brussels (Belgium) or in France (Lyon)
