The Department of Planning, Lands, and Heritage is seeking applications for its Heritage Grants Program 2020/21.

The 2020/21 program offers a new Community Heritage Grants stream for community engagement, skills development and interpretation projects. This stream is offered in addition to the traditional State Heritage Grants funding stream for urgent conservation works.

State Heritage Grants stream (SHG)

The SHG grant stream subsidises the cost of conservation works, documentation and professional advice relating to the conservation of State Registered places.

The CHG grant stream is a new stream introduced into the 2020/21 Program. This grant stream provides assistance to not-for-profit organisations, businesses and local governments for community engagement and interpretation projects related to State Registered places. The CHG stream has two categories:
Community engagement: events or activities that celebrate a State Registered place or projects that promote heritage conservation or interpretation across a region or sector.
Interpretation: projects that relate to a State Registered place or a place in the Heritage Council’s assessment program. Interpretation projects can either be single place projects or projects such as heritage trails that incorporate a State Registered place along with other local heritage places.
Funding Information

State Heritage Grants (SHG): Discretionary grants of up to $40,000 (ex GST) are offered for conservation works projects and up to $10,000 (ex GST) for non-works projects, on a dollar-for-dollar (50:50) basis. In-kind contributions will not be considered.
Community Heritage Grants (CHG): Matched funding up to $20,000 is offered per complete project. The minimum funding to any one project is $1,000.

Eligible applicants

To be eligible for the SHG stream applicants must:

be a private owner of a State Registered place and
hold comprehensive building insurance for the place

Not-for-profit organizations must provide evidence that the project has been declined or has been refused Lotterywest funding.
Non-government entities that are leasing a government-owned place, and have been for 10 or more years, may be eligible if they can provide evidence the maintenance of the place is their full responsibility.
Owners that have held the Certificate of Title for three years or less must provide evidence that the defects giving rise to the project were unknown at the time of property settlement and the cost of repairs exceeds the property value.
Applications from owners of places that have been on the Heritage Council’s assessment program for five or more years may be accepted if they relate to the preparation of conservation management planning documents.

To be eligible for the CHG grant stream, applicants must be one of the following:

incorporated not-for-profit organization registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC)
businesses, including individuals/ sole traders, with a valid ABN or
WA local government authorities.
Applicants must also meet all of the below criteria:

hold appropriate business, professional indemnity, public liability insurance or comprehensive building insurance (as applicable to the project) for the duration of the project
provide detail of the estimated income as a result of the project if you are a commercial applicant
disclose all sources of funding for the project in the project application and
provide evidence of place ownership or owner authorization if your project involves any works to a place
